Tell me about cataract surgery

DH has developed cataracts in both eyes as a result of long term steroid use. Last time he was at the eye doctor(6 months ago) the doc said he could get them removed at any time. DH didn't want to do it then, but lately he's really having a lot of vision issues. Mostly eye strain, headaches and blurry vision. I think he's going to have to get the cataracts removed.

My question: How did you know it was time? And how was the recovery?

My dad had this done last year. The eye doctor just told him he had to have it done. Recovery was just fine. Lots of prescription eye drops, though, which were expensive.

Twice he went in (once for each eye) and a half hour later he was done and ready to go home about a half hour to an hour later. Just had to have someone drive and rest the days it was done.

It's really not that big of a deal. He was up and driving the next day (even though he probably should have been) and doing well.

My 91yo Gram had it done last year, both eyes over a few weeks. She is so glad she did it, not difficult surgery and simple recovery.

DDad had it done many years ago and it was much harder, today it is simple, outpatient surgery. Tell him not to worry and go for it!
