Went to the Orthodonist today for a consultation and wondering how much are braces? :confused3
Wondering if I should get a 2nd consultation, but thought, wait, go to the DIS, a great place to get knowledge of any sort..

Thanks in advance..

I forgot to reply on the other thread..lol...Snape's good.. :stir:

They will be between $3,000 and 6,000 depending on how much work needs to be done and where you live. DS's were put on a year ago, they were $4800.

DD 19 had them I'm thinking it was $4000.00. DD 11 need them & I have to get on the ball. Promised I would start looking into Orthodontist after July 4.

Yes get a few prices & get a Orthodontist that is convenient to go to. You will be spending a lot of time there over the next few years. :teeth:

My first were in the ball park of $3500 or so plus retainer. That was 10 years ago.

I have 6 brackets on my bottom row right now to correct a slight crooked tooth from not wearing my retainer (super bad morning sickness with pregnancy is why)..and it is costing me about $1200 plus retainer for roughly only 6 months. So less than half of my mouth in braces and for only 1/4 of the time and it is that much. YIKES!

We are going for a second consultation tomorrow. Want to make sure she can have the best smile possible. Also want to see all the options she has.

Mine were about $5500, plus a $900 crown on one tooth. But, I was 35 when I got them on, and that makes a difference! It takes longer to fix adult teeth. It was a full 2 1/2 years. The 2nd opinion I got was about $1200 more then what I paid.

:teeth: All four of mine had braces. The last pair were $4,800. I told the Dr tht I bought him his car and he sid I was proably right.

DD just got hers off a few months ago. It was a little less than $5000.

$5800 for my first son, $6000 for my second, and I still have a 7 year old who may need them. Ouch! But well worth it when I see them smile. :thumbsup2

insurance usually pays a small amount. the rest you will have to work out with your orthodontist's financial staff. i think you will find you have to pay $800-ish up front and make monthly payments after that.

Each of our boys had braces - each cost around $4000... no insurance.

They are both ready to get them off this summer - the younger one has been in them for 7 years (yes you read that right) and the older one has had them for about a year and a half.

Good luck!!

I am an adult in braces for the 2nd time- I had them when I was 11-13 previously. I wore my retainer and did everything that I was supposed to do- even in college! But, unfortuantely my first ortho did not do what was necessary for the longevity of my smile. I did get 2 different opinions (both had the same sort of treatment plans) and one was $5500 and the other was $4800. I opted to go with the less expensive not only because of the cost difference but because I really clicked with him and I felt very comfortable in his office. It is a good thing- I spend a lot of time there! He also has a good payment plan with a downpayment and interest free payments of $125/ month. I think you need to feel comfortable enough to question waht is happening- my orhto laughs all the time because I always question him! And I have learned a lot- should have been an orthodontist! Good luck and beware it is much more painful as an adult at least in my experience! However, I know it will be worth it in the end!

My DD14 cost around $4500.. Ds12 cost around $4200 for the first set.. which he's still in, but I've been told he will be going to a second set.. so Im sure those will go around another $4300-$4500-- so his altogether will have cost around $9000 (his teeth are very bad).. From the looks of it, DD8 will probably need them too when she gets older.. ugh....But when I see DD14 smile it makes it all worth it.. Her teeth are so straight.. She is about to get them off and will then go to a retainer..

for daughter this summer I received these quotes
4970.00 at one orthodontist

5020.00 at another

Insurance of 950.00

This is for second phase. Phase one lasted 9 months the bill was over 3000.00

Orthodontics is such a rip off!! I cannot believe that braces cannot be done for much less money.

My son had braces put on 2 years ago. 4600.00:scared1:

Our son had braces for 4 years. Total cost was $4,800 with a one time insurance payment of $1,500. They were great about payment options. They said whatever we wanted to do was fine. We had the ins. payment up front and then we made 2 payments in each consecutive March (tax return). They were fine with it.

He just got them off this spring and he looks amazing! They did say that he'll need his wisdom teeth out when he's older, but that's in the future and something an oral surgeon would do. He still has to wear his retainer every night for 6 months, then 3-5 x's a week for 6 months, then 1-2 x's a week for the rest of his life. Hope he always loves the USA because he picked out a retainer with the flag on it! Pretty cool looking.....

I would shop around for my ortho if I was you. Not only for the price, but also for who your child clicks with. Our DS had a space maintainer for numerous years and he hated the ortho we used. We got our second opinion for braces at a place MUCH firther away, but he really liked the people there. I figured he was going to be seeing these people on a regular basis for many years and I didn't want to fight with him every time we went. It worked out really well for us even though it was quite a drive.

Well let's see. They are Dr.'s with all the medical degrees and the $ that goes with getting them. They see you once a month to every other month for anywhere from 1 to 8 years. The price includes all hardware and a replacement of said hardware the first time it's lost or broken. It also includes emergecny visits. And answering frantic phone calls when you have wire poking into your kids mouth and don't know what to do. And when it's all over, they tell you not to hesistate to call.....EVER.....if you have any questions regarding the teeth. As in in 2 years if you have a problem, give them a call. That's what they were paid for. Maybe our ortho was just awesome, but that's what my $$$ got me and I thought it was a pretty good deal.

my kids ortho charges $4900 for a full set. DS (10) has a space maintainer on the bottom and will go into a full set when we get a few more permanent teeth in. DD (8) has 4 brackets on the top front only $2000 (phase I) and will then go into a full set after that. Waiting on more teeth to go and then adult teeth to come in.

Dental work in general isn't cheap. It's not just braces.

And not just for kids.

Slightly off topic
Our dog just had his teeth cleaned. Usualy it's about $200, but he had to have a couple teeth pulled so it was $250. Sheesh.....

DS sons are $4500. Insurance is covering 2200 or it was be 2300. Right now he has a pallette expander on.. than he will need 4 teeth pulled and than the braces and than retainer. That is all included.
