Tell me about biking with kids on Castaway Cay

I am interested in renting bikes on our upcoming cruise while we are in CC. We have an 11 year old and an 8 year old. We do some bike riding as a family, but our 11 yr old is not particularly hardy about bike rides and isn't a fan of hilly or long treks. Would you say the the path at CC is a pretty easy ride and very manageable for kids? How long does it take to complete the trail? Are there hills or is it fairly flat?

It's fairly flat. And pretty exposed to the sun, not a lot of shade. I only did it once, and I don't recall how long it took, but I was glad as I got back to the end of the trip.....

It's an easy and pleasant ride. Very flat. We go to CC in winter, though, when it's warm rather than hot. In summer, biking might be unpleasant due to the heat.

The trail can be long or short depending on where & how far you choose to go.

Its not bad our grandkids were 6 & 8 and had no problem with it. We were there in January, so the weather was a little cool and just right.
If your going in summer, I suggest you take an early ride if you can.

I think we spent about an hour or so, they loved the observation tower and spent some time up there looking out over the island.

If you are not traveling in the summer, I encourage you to explore geocaching as there are two geocaches available via bike...very fun!

I've done it every time I've been there. One of the things I look forward to. There are really two places to bike to. One is along the road behind the adult beach. it's a dead end, but fun to ride out to the end and then look down the adult beach from the viewing area. The second is the more well known loop that includes the observation tower. I remember at least one water station along the way.

There is no shade and it is fairly flat. The bikes are single speed beach cruiser style with one cup holder. You supposedly have an hour, but they don't typically care much how long you have the bike. Nobody is going very fast on any of the roads, so biking with kids is not an issue.

There are plenty of water stations along the route. There is shade in some areas of the trail, especially the lane behind the adult beach, but not all. Shade will be greater if you don't bike at noon, of course. You can keep the bikes as long as you want. No one is keeping track in any way of your time. Very Bahamas laid-back.

The bike trail and the CC 5K follow similar paths, except the 5K repeats the bike loop that includes the observation tower. I would estimate that the bike ride from the rental pick-up point out to the old runway, around the bike loop with a stop at the observation tower, then along the runway to Serenity Bay and then riding straight back to the starting point would be just over two miles. It could be extended a bit by riding the path parallel to Serenity Bay. It’s very flat. There’s a water station near the observation tower in the bike loop. If you want a shorter ride, just go to the bike loop, check out the view of the island from the observation tower, and ride back to the starting point.

We got the bikes this last time on CC & it was great! Fantastic alternative to beaching all day. Worked out well in that the weather was cool & breezy. Nice flat runs, an easy go over all.
