ok - so it seems like i go through a ton of adhesive and lets face it - its not cheap. so i was thinking about getting an ATG gun -
enable me....

who has one - what do you think - is it cost effective.....

i was using the adhesive from the dollar tree - would buy about 10 at a time - would last me awile and worked great but all the dollar trees in my area no longer carry them :scared1:
and i am down to my last one.

thanks for the imput.

You have to have it. It was the best investment I ever made. It is SOOO much more cost effective than any other adhesive out there, not to mention how easy it is to use. I could never go back to anything else after having it.

which one do you have - i was looking at the atg 50 - but someone was talking about the scotch 714 one
help me pick
ebay looks like they have some good deals -
would you recomend the 1/4" over the 1/2" tape?
thanks
jennifer

I have the Scotch 714 (the red one.) I recommend the narrower tape because you can always put 2 strips next to each other if you need more tape, but the wider one can't be made more narrow to get into small spaces.

What she said:)

ITA with the PP. I <3 my ATG and don't remember scrapping without it! :D

I don't like the ATG b/c its so big and no one around here sales it. I used it at my LSS and decided against it. I bought this instead:

It is great. Its smaller, easier to hold. However I am one of the people I know that doesn't like the ATG, so you may love it.

Alright, so for the longest time I thought my dear friend Tinkerbean was crazy to have one, but then my mother, in a spending frenzy at CKC, bought one, and I have to say, it's pretty awesome. My only complaint is that sometimes it doesn't like going over bumps (like if you have a brad or something) on the paper. but the adhesive is so strong that it's okay if you miss a spot.

And the gun itself is a pretty big investment, but then there's this great place called the Tape Depot (google it) that can ship you caseloads of tape... and it adds up to be a little over a dollar a roll (And the rolls are long).

It does take some getting used to, but it really is a great tool.

Naw...we STILL think TinkerBean is crazy :wave2:!!!! But, she was right about the ATG - love the little bugger. And I NEVER thought I'd break down and get one...but I never thought I'd join the scary swap people too....eek, I'm getting sucked in.... :rainbow:

And, ahem..."spending frenzy"??? Ok, maybe you're right...! :rolleyes2

Since i worked 96 hours of overtime straight - i wanted to reward myself with a new toy - so i broke down and bought it last night - from ebay - but tape depot - i think the gun was 37.00 but came with 6 rolls of tape and i bought 12 more rolls for $16.00
i figured it was a good investment and there has to be more tape on the rolls then a regular tape runner and i am blowing through them like crazy - plus the way i look at it - it is better for the environment - i was throwing away the plastic holders because the ones i was using didnt have refills.
i hope it comes soon becuase i think it is going to be awesome for making pillow boxes for my mothers wedding.
thanks for the feedback.

ok-Ihave the 714, have been using for about 6 months-I love it except that I cant keep the tape on the stupid roller-I can roll about a 4x6 photos worth and it falls off the dispenser-is this common or am I just challenged? What am I doing wrong???

logan&tylersmama ~ I have the 714 and love it, and once you get yours, you will love it too! I use it all the time, and it is a more cost effective way to scrap. I also use my Tombow adhesive for little things, but I use my ATG for everything else.

Iwant2BAprincess ~ Your gun should not be doing that. Have you followed the instructions correctly for loading the tape? Do you know anyone else who has it so they can help you with it?

Are you sure you're snapping the circular part of the adhesive all the way down onto the black snap of the gun? (It's taller than the rest of the inner circle of the first circle) You have to press right down on the plastic part, because generally pressing on the tape doesn't cut it, the tape just bends.

Also, are you winding the end of the reel through the two little slots on the second circle, and then sticking it to the lowered section of the circle using the sticky area on the leader?
Here's two different pictorial links, my words might not cut it.

These are the only things I can think of (ie - this is what I did wrong a few times - :lmao:)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "falls off the dispenser", but there were some bad batches of tape out there that just didn't work and did all sorts of funky things on the gun. Another DISer here had so many problems with her gun that we thought she was just ATG challenged, but it turned out to be the tape. If you can try tape from a different batch, see if that solves the problem.

I, too, am an ATG gun lover!!! I couldn't afford to or stand to scrap without it!! It's so much quicker than any other adhesive, and though the inital investment with the gun expense is there, it's still much, much cheaper than any other investment. Never had a problem with the tape. I just got a new delivery of tape the other day.

I had been using framingsupplies.com for a couple of years, but I will check out the other dealer Zerotohero mentioned above for my next shipment. Framingsupplies.com has a huge shipping fee and there is no reason for express delivery for an adhesive and they won't do it by any other means of shipment. But, if they were the only dealer on earth, I would still order from them just to get it.

Go for it!!!

But if you order from someone other than Framing Supplies you won't get your free roll of bubblewrap that comes with every order! :lmao:

They have the craziest wrapping I have ever seen.

You all are really making me want to try the ATG gun again. Hmmm, I am going to CKC in Nashville, maybe they will have it there. The first time (and only) time I tried it I could not get it to do right. Maybe I just need practice.

Too true! I think it must make the postal carrier's day to be able to get a good laugh out of that package!
