My inlaws got us all a beach house on Amelia Island this spring. I've never been there and I have no idea what is there. Can I get some travel pointers. You know, sights to see and places that are a must eat at place. Thanks.

If you are talking about Amelia Island in Florida...it is beautiful...make sure to take a trip "downtown" it has many shops and there is a great ice cream shop there... but the beach is great..have fun

I can't help you a whole lot
but I can recommend Barbara Jeans -Great crab cakes!

We stayed at a resort there once. We went into St. Augustine for a day and the rest of the time we spent on the beach

Amelia Island is a great place to relax and enjoy your family. In other words, there just really isn't much to do -- at all. That said.... our family will go there once or twice a year. The downtown area is very small and managable on foot. My girls love to go and look in the shops and then stop for ice cream. The rest of the time we just spend together on the beach or at the pool or playing games in our room.

The attraction is that it's not a bustling place. It's off the freeway, has lovely beaches, fairly expensive food, and is suited for relaxation. The Ritz-Carlton draws celebrities during the off-season because it's so little trafficked.

We actually own a townhouse on Amelia Island. We looked for a vacation home in several places before settling on AI. I have to disagree with the poster who said there wasn't much to do there. Golfing, tennis, kayaking, boating, hiking, biking, checking out the 13 miles of beaches, shopping in historic downtown are only a few options. There are great places to eat. Sliders, right on the beach is one of our favorites as is Pablos, a mexican restaurant downtown. If you want hustle and bustle, Jacksonville is only 25 minutes away. As you can see, Amelia island is very special to us. If you have further questions, feel free to PM me. By the way, don't stop into the Redneck Yacht Club unless you are feeling VERY adventurous ! (and don't have any children with you)
