When I have stayed value studio, I was lucky enough to have savannah view. , room 5126. But dvcnews shows the rooms on Giraffe Trail as value category (from guest reports, I believe.) I always thought those were standard category, therefore more points and slightly bigger rooms. Is it correct that the rooms on Giraffe Trail are value category? How is the pool view? Are they the same size as the rooms on Ostrich Trail?

Yes the pool-facing rooms along the Giraffe Trail are Value rooms. They are the same size as the rooms along the Ostrich Trail.

Here is a great map showing all of the DVC rooms in Jambo House. The DVC rooms are shown in color. The uncolored rooms along those trails are AKL hotel rooms that were not converted to AKVillas.

Yes, LisaS, that is the map I was looking at. It is a great map.
Last August, value wasn't available, so I booked standard, wanting the Giraffe Trail rooms. They wouldn't let me have any there. I guess that is why, because they are value category and I had booked standard category. I just thought none were available, which also may have been the case. The standard studio sure didn't seem any larger than the value. I was in 5412 last August on the Zebra trail, and sure preferred 5126 on the Ostrich Trail. From those 2 rooms, the standard really doesn't seem any larger than the value.

The Value rooms are about 3 feet shorter than the non-Value rooms in Jambo House. The size difference is in the living/sleeping area. The bathrooms and kitchens/kitchenettes are the same size in Value and non-Value rooms. The balcony of a Value room is also not as deep as the balconies on non-Value rooms in Jambo House.

Because of the size difference in the living/sleeping areas, Value studios don't have the storage bench and Value 1BRs don't have a sleeper chair so the occupancy is lower (4 instead of 5 for non-Value 1BRs at AKV). Otherwise Value rooms have the same large furniture so there is less open space in the Value rooms. Some have reported it can be difficult to open and close the bedroom door in a Value 1BR because the door hits the bed!

But they are a great deal point-wise and many of the Value rooms have good views.

The value pool view locations are so convenient to the pool! I've had the pool view location for my last 3 value stays. At first I was disappointed because for previous stays I had been lucky with savannah view, but walking has been getting harder for me, and I now find the pool view more convenient. If I really want savannah view, that's what I will book, but for now, my priorities have changed.

We love AKV and the value rooms with the pool view. They are so convenient to the pool and Mara. I love to enjoy the pool view and its soothing. Our favorite!:woohoo:

Value villas at AKV are DVCs best "value", in my opinion. I've had both pool view and savannah view value studios, and while I really thought I'd hit the DVC lottery with the savannah view (I LOVED it!), the pool view are nice too. On one stay, I switched from a standard view to a value studio, and I definitely liked my view just as much. I've also had a true savannah view studio, and frankly liked the view of the savannah even more from my value savannah view. But my pleasure was enhanced by knowing how many points I was saving as I watched the giraffes.
