Telescope for kids

My 6 year old cut out a picture of a telescope for his wishbook for Santa. My DH and I are pretty excited about it but I have no idea on what kind to get and don't want to spend a ton of money becuase I do not know how well they work. Target has Meade 60 mm telescope on sale through today for $77.00 (regularly $99.00). Can anyone give suggestions, I was hoping to spend under $100.00.

We got DS a telescope for Christmas one year. It was in the $100 range, maybe $125 or so. It didn't work very well. It was pretty much a big magnifying glass and that was about it. If you want to get something that you can really see detail you will have to spend more then $100 otherwise it is just a waste of money. Some high powered binoculars would work just as well and cost about the same.

My 6 year old ds wants a telescope for Christmas too, but he isn't getting one. To get one that actually works and isn't a huge disappointment, I'd have to spend more money than I'm willing. Go to Amazon or epinions and read some reviews of the different $100.00 range telescopes out there.
