I don't get the style. Can any parents of teens who wear pants at their knees explain it to me? I'm starting to see this style every place I go. :confused3

where have you been the last 18 years? this is nothing new.

It's gotten much, much worse the past 5 years. Why do parents allow this?

It's funny how different parts of the country are different. Around here, this trend hit its peak about 5 years ago. You hardly see it anymore now. I can't remember the last time I saw this style and I am in a school everyday.

We are in a lull of "expressive" styles. Jeans and converse sneakers is the big trend here. Or skinny jeans and converse sneakers.

Whether children know it or not, the "look" originated with the jail house. Belts are taken away so trousers slump.

Their exaggerated version glorifies being in jail.

Both of mine have finally grown out of that style finally. But, I have to ask, if they don't KNOW that it originated in jail how can their wearing it be glorifying it?

Anyway, around here the boys aren't wearing the pants actually falling down so much as they are wearing jeans made to LOOK like they are falling down. Like the pockets are behind the knees.

Well I don't see it very much anymore but back when it was "the thing" most boys said they wore there pants that way because it was comfortable. I don't think it would be comfortable but they said it was :rotfl: I think most did it simply because the majority of there friends did. Not because it was started in jails.

The crotch rule

You have a crotch, your pants have a crotch.
They must be touching.

Around here the fad is almost gone, except with a few of the gang wanna be's. The skinny jeans are in, a much more flattering look if you ask me. Thankfully my boys never got into the baggy, saggy jeans.

This style has pretty much disappeared here too even though we do see a few now and then. I keep hearing that it's out of style.

I never understood the draw. It looks uncomfortable to me.

We never had to worry about that, my Son didn't care to look stupid.

I don't think parents are really supposed to "get" teen styles. That's half the point, isn't it? At least from the teen's POV...

Exactly this. My son doesn't wear baggy jeans, he wears skinny ones but often has part of his boxers sticking out. I say nothing because there are way more important battles to fight. I choose not to make one out of clothing.

Because we have bigger fish to fry, and couldn't care less. :)

Oh. Gee whiz. I'll let both my boys know they're glorifying being in jail.

My favorite part is that they wear belts now with them. So, the belt tightens around the thighs and they look like ducks when they walk.. Sure doesn't look comfortable to me. Its odd, just odd.

Every generation needs one thing that they can look back at and say what the heck was I thinking. This is one of them :)

This trend comes and goes. When I was in H.S. (graduated 96) it was in. For a while there the skinny jeans were in and boys even wearing girls jeans. I guess the saggy pants are back in.

Like a PP said every generation has their own fashion disaster and many of them repeat. My generation had grunge. I hope everyone sold their flannel T-shirt stock somewhere around 1996 or they are holding a lot of worthless paper :goodvibes

Ugh. I hate that style more then any style of clothing I have ever seen in my life. It's completely stupid.
