Teens On The CB

I think that this board should be for everyone. After all, we deal with creeps and trolls so I can hardly see how the posts of a few teens is going to cause any harm. Besides, someone like Sparx posts so well that it would be a shame to send her away.

Saxsoon is a teen?? :confused3 Wow, that's cool. :thumbsup2 Anyway, I don't think this should be an adults only forum. I would miss Sparx. :)

I agree that it would be helpful if there was some sort of marker on underage posters that we could use to identify who we're talking to.

Saxoon, I once sent you a pm about a thread we were both on. I don't think I would have reached out to pm you if I had known at that time you were a teenager. I probably would have asked the question on the thread or just forgot about it.

The idea of an adult sending pm's to teenagers online creeps me out a little bit.
rofl, it is so hard to tell on the internet isn't it?

Saxsoon is a teen?? Wow!!

I don't think it should be an adult-only board. I don't think that they should be trolling the CB board either with games from the teen board, and whatnot.

As a teacher of teens, I have no problems with them hanging out here on the CB. Sometimes, it gives me an insight on how they think which hopefully helps me understand them better in RL.

Besides, I am a 52 year old POTC lover......I certainly don't act my age around here sometimes!!!  pirate: :bounce:

It shouldn't be age specific.

There are "adult" posters on the CB who can't conduct themselves appropriately, so it's not just a teen thing. If the person can respect others and not cause problems, then age shouldn't be a factor.

Amen.

Don't know a lot of teens here, but I do know you Sparx and I'm always impressed with how well you conduct yourself. If all adults could be so civil. :)

LOL, I did the same thing. Wasn't it Sparx that had a picture she wanted us to look at. I responded thinking she was much older. I would have worded my response a little differently if I'd known she was so young. :)

I agree that it should be for everyone, but I believe there's an invisible bar of maturity that should be displayed. Those 2 threads were nothing other than :stir:.

I agree. :thumbsup2

I don't have a problem interacting with teens. I've been doing it on an online game I play for years. There's nothing inappropriate about it.

There are a few posters on here that I was surprised to find out were teens, and a few I was surprised to find out were adults. :lmao: I laugh, but it's true!

I have no problem whatsoever with teens posting on the CB. BUT I do think there should be an indicator that a poster is under 18 yrs old.

I too, am a little creeped out at the idea of an adult sending pm's to a teen and yet how are the adults to know unless there is an indicator? Some teens are so obviously teens that you can see them a mile away but others act quite mature and therefore are hard to spot unless someone who knows them IRL is also on the boards.

I guess what I'm trying to say is in our society there are limits on the interactions we have with children (for good reason!) and with message boards it can be harder to determine who is a child and who isn't.

What's wrong with exchaning PMs with a teen? :confused3 I swear some of the teens around here are more mature than some of the adults. ;)

So is it just creepy because you don't know it is a teen? Or is any interaction between a teen and adult creepy? I am really curious here.

I think the CB should be open to everyone and anyone.

Maybe there's some flirty-flirty going on behind the scenes!

I swear, I miss all the good stuff.

Or maybe snarky-snarky? I really wonder what people PM around here if they feel uncomfortable to find out it's a teen? :rotfl2:

I don't post much but read the boards every day. I have no problems at all with teens posting on the Community boards. Sometimes they seem more mature that some of the adults.

Sparx, I think you always are very mature and enjoy reading what you write. But then I may be a bit biased since I'm Michael's mom.

Can't wait to meet you and your parents this weekend.

It's really interesting to read these posts. I have been on the DIS for almost 6 years and even as a 21 year old, some people on the CB still treat me like a teenager and disregard what I say thinking I could not have possibly experienced anything close to what they are experiencing. Well the teen board is a little young for me, the college board is all about the College Progam, and on the CB i still get judged as if I were under the age of 18...so where does that leave us?
I think some people on the CB are very accepting and I think others are too quick to judge because of something one teen posted on the CB.

I must have missed the threads you're talking about
That being said, I'm glad this board is NOT adults only. I was 16 or 17 when I joined the DIS. The teen board seems to be mostly younger teens so I felt really out of place there. The majority of my posts on here have been on the CB. I'm 20 now, so not a teen, but still on the younger end of the CB. I agree with Norah, the college board seems to be mainly CP posts. So where does that leave those of us in between?

I think the community board is just that--a community with people of all ages. I love reading Sparx's threads and posts because it gives me an idea of a teen's perspective. And since I have a teen myself, I know they can really have an interesting perspective sometimes. :teeth:
