Dh and I dont wear contact or glasses. Our 14dd does. She has an end of the year fieldtrip. She mainly wears contacts and once in a while wears her glasses. She's dreading going to the water park. She can not see without her contacts/glasses. I ask not even a lil and she said no and she she's really blurry and she's down about it. Last weekend I was talking to her
boy cousin (age15) . He said he wears his contact to go swimming and he even opens he's eyes under the water. He has contacts that last a month and need to be taken out daily but he said he sleeps in his. I thought contacts cant be worn in water ???I was real world and the girl jumped in the water/beach and her eyes were burning.

So those of you with teens that wear eyewear and go swimming or water parks what do they do especially if they have really bad vision???Thank inadvance

I have terrible vision (-5.75.) I can't see at all without my contacts. I sleep in them and change them weekly. I used to insist on wearing them to the beach and in water and although there is no burning at all, I have lost so many contacts that I no longer do that.

Instead, I wear goggles. Not attractive at all but gets the job done. The only other option is prescription sunglasses, and those aren't any good underwater anyway.

I can't see well at all without my contacts. I wear them when I go swimming but I definitely keep my eyes closed.

Its a teen school fieldtrip so I dont know about googles:confused3 might not be to cool:confused3 H

I told dd to take the old pair before she changes it out for the new ones. She wears the monthly 30 day and she can take a 2nd pair and I guess take her glasses for the way home if she loses them. Her annual exam is in July so we will be ordering more.

My poor dd always tells me,"Mom i need my contacts or glasses because I'm blind as a bat!"

My one son and I both wear contacts daily and we wear them to pools and water parks without a problem. There's hardly any real swimming at a water park. He's a competitive swimmer and wears goggles in the pool , not at a water park. She should have no problems.

I think most people keep their eyes closed in the water anyways, the water is highly chlorinated to cause eyes to burn.

I'm blind as a bat without my glasses as well, and I've worn my glasses to the water parks. I used to spend every day at Aquatica, and never had a problem. Cannon balling into a pool has knocked them off, but never coming down the slide.

She could hold her glasses in her hand once she enters a slide or she could wear board shorts with velcro pockets and store them in there. If she goes with contacts on, make sure she brings her glasses just in case.

I wear my contacts swimming and to water parks all the time and have done so for years. I've even opened my eyes underwater and not lost one. Tell her to enjoy and not worry.

When I started wearing contacts in high school, I was so excited because I could go swimming and actually SEE! Your plan sounds great. Have her go and wear her contacts, she'll be fine, and SO happy to be able to see!!! I'm blind as a bat without them, too! :rotfl2::thumbsup2

I wear contacts (and am soooooooooooo blind without them), and have no problems swimming or at water parks. I DO close my eyes underwater or when getting splashed in the face.

Same here. I've never lost a contact.

Make sure to tell your DD to pack her glasses or a spare pair of contacts in her pool bag just in case something goes wrong.

I always just wear my contacts when in the pool or at a water park. If I didn't, I would probably drown because I seriously can't see more than a foot in front of me without them. I close my eyes under water no matter what, it's just instinct for me. I've never had a lens splashed out. Honestly, the only time i've ever lost one was when I was putting them in or out, and dropped it down the sink or something.

I can't imagine wearing glasses to a water park, though. Too much hassle for me, personally. And too high a chance of losing them.

But, I'm pretty reckless I guess. I wear my contacts in the water and don't even bring an extra pair...living dangerously!

i also am blind as a bat and have worn glasses since 13, contacts since 15.

while at a water park or swimming i keep my contacts in and sometimes wear goggles. there are some slides that won't let you wear goggles while going down though (i feel like summit plummet is one of them but really cant remember).

i agree with bringing an extra pair of contacts, solution and glasses.

i would also suggest if water gets in her eyes rather than rub them (which may rub the contact out) close and squeeze them for a second and then swipe them. thats what i usually do if they get wet otherwise i lose one!

I wear monthlies and have never had a problem swimming in them. I just wanted to add one thing. We recently switched my 14 year old to daily wear disposable contacts. Best decision in the world!

Thanks for that tip. I will pass it on to dd :)

Just curious how much is a years supplies of disposables daily
for your son?

Try shopping at aalens.com for replacement contacts - cheapest site I've found. I was nervous at first (they are based in Singapore) but super reliable...and FAST.

As for waterparks, I wear my contacts with sunglasses (and use safety straps for those for slides and such. Tucked under my hair, they are discreet). I bring goggles for swimming in the TL wave pool (only because I like to swim to the deep end). If not, I wouldn't even bother and would just close my eyes.

You really don't get your eyes wet in a waterpark. My sunglasses are a must though.

I wear contacts and water is the whole reason I started - I was a competitive swimmer and couldn't manage meets without being able to see. My vision is terrible (-6.0) and I live in my contacts. If I'm awake, they're in regardless of what I'm doing. Since mine are disposables I pack an extra pair just in case, but I've never lost a contact in the water.
