I saw a small discussion about this on the "Haunted Mansion" question and I figured I would start a new thread about it here.

We just took our 7 month old and 17 month old to Disneyland Monday and yesterday. I was so frustrated by the teenagers (mainly) screaming their lungs off like they are being murdered on rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

This week is like peak "graduation time" I guess, many teenagers walking around with grad hats and T-shirts, plus I think the first week of vacation. The place was packed! It was really hard walking around with two babies in the heat, especially a wild 17 month old who LOVES rides, HATES lines and has a tantrum in every line does not want to be carried/hates the harness etc etc Parents you know what I'm talking about.

Well We took the babies on Pirates and Haunted mansion which is actually two of their favorite rides, even my 7 month old is amazed by pirates. During the haunted mansion several teenagers screamed bloody murder in the eleveator....what is the purpose, do they obviously don't care that their is small children/babies/elderly in the elevator too.

We also experienced the same thing in Pirates, not just screaming down the flume, but screaming for no reason during many of the scenes. I'm very lucky that my two babies don't get too scared yet as long as were holding them anyway. No damage done, but it was ridiculous. I hope I wasn't like that when I was 14....uggh maybe I was.

We had a hard time this trip mainly because of the crowds. We just got our AP's in April, and have only gone during non Peak season, and WOW what a difference in Crowds. I felt it was unmanagable even, at least with such small babies. I don't know how others do it.

I agree- I was ther ejust for the day on Monday with my 5 and 3 year old and encountere loud screaming tweens on of all things Snow White. My 5 year old got off the ride at the end and told the CM- "those big kids are just big babies, I don't know why they're scared it's just for fun!"

I know, it's ridiculous. I have no idea why they do it, being rude and not thinking about others I guess. We saw it a lot last week. THe parks were filled with inconsiderate people.

I notice it too and it's annoying.

I mean, I scream when I'm on rides that you actually should be screaming (TOT, BTMRR, Space, Splash.. etc), but I'm not screaming obnoxiously. I think it was last trip we were on HM and some teenagers were screaming during the elevator scene and I even thought to myself "if I was a little kid, I'd be pooing my pants right now!". It's stupid. :headache:

Its just that time of the year. I haven't really encountered anyone screaming for no reason on POTC. I guess we have been lucky that way. My kids actually don't like Mansion unless its the Nightmare Before Christmas version. So I really cant comment there. However, if you could just imagine going to the CM christmas party...now that's annoying ;) Let's just say going on an attraction with someone or a group who works on the attraction is probably worse than going with teens/tweens on a field trip. And then followed by those who think they can run the park better than the Disney company is just as bad.

There's a huge difference between screaming because you're having fun such as on a roller coaster or Tower of Terror versus screaming so you can hear yourself scream. When you're having fun, it's not very loud and certainly not ear splitting to the guests around you. The obnoxious screams are multiplied exponentially on something like Mansion because it will echo throughout the room, especially in the enclosed stretching room.

While I wish there was something Disney could do about it, I realize there isn't much they can do. The screamers need to realize that sometimes they're not only ruining other guests experiences, but also traumatizing some poor little child because the screamer thinks it fun to pretend they're being killed or something horrible like that.

For me, I used to LOVE HM. Teenagers have ruined it for me. Almost every time I've been on it, people are talking along to the tape in the elevator, screaming on the ride, being annoying and rude.

It really ruins the experience of the ride for me!

I recently watched a Youtube video of some ride (can't remember which) and it was completely ruined by the unnecessary, OBVIOUSLY fake screaming of the person taking the video. At the very end, he said, "Eh, it was okay, I guess..." I find it interesting how things that used to amuse me as a teen, flat-out annoy me as an adult.

I have to say that this was the only downside to our trip to DLR and KBF. I have never really encountered it on such a widespread basis on any of our Florida trips. I expected it to be crowded (wasn't too bad) but the groups of unsupervised, loud, and constantly talking tweens/teens was just annoying. Yeah, I've heard the HM spiel in the stretching room tons of times but maybe some other visitor hasn't. It takes away from the experience. We just chalked it up to the parks being so easily accessed/urban environment. Same thing at Knott's (and our closest Six Flags park).

well i'm the kind of guy who will confront these folks either on the ride or shortly after the ride. i just don't tolerate this crap.

We were there last week and many of the teen groups were beyond horrid. I commented to my DD that the poor kids on those rides had to be scared out of their minds by the screaming alone. Screaming was just the tip of the iceberg though. We watched a large group jump around their boat on POTC, splash water all over and scream **** about 20 times. One even dangled his foot behind the boat in between our two boats bumping each other. One group broke a beer bottle in the BTMRR line after dark. We had one group shove us to cut in front of us. Of course their other 14 friends had to catch up to their friends and shove past us too. When another 3 tried it I pointed right into their faces and told them not one more. They climbed off the rails and their friends let us get back into our place in line. Of course I was called some colorful names by them.
I did manage to catch a lady who was with a group that had Mickey shirts with BRE on it. I told her I worked in a school and it is nice to know when kids are behaving nicely. I told her that out of all the groups we had seen, every group with those shirts were the best behaved groups in the park.
I do have to wonder who allowed the woman with the t-shirt that said "do I look like a give a (fill in the blank with the actual ****)" into the park?

That bolded part is probably soooo true, well, for an adult. I think a skittish kid would still appreciate that over the random screaming. :rotfl2:

I'm trying to remember if I was THAT obnoxious during my preteen and teen years going to Great American a million times. I know that even in college (and now) my friends and I can talk a million miles an hour, and I'm sure there was much giggling. But screaming for no reason? I just don't know.

It was my kiddo that spurred that discussion, b/c he was just fine until everyone shrieked in the overlayed HM. He could not be calmed down, and we ended up taking the chicken exit. By the way, that's not recommended by me...now that I've seen the overlay version I don't know that I agree, but at the time I had the strong feeling that we would have been less scared by just going on the ride, rather than walk those halls. Maybe it's changed since October of '06, but back then the walls were painted black, there were very few signs, and the halls just went on and on. By the time we got out (it lets you out back by the holiday-time FP machines) we were BOTH in tears.

I wonder if the CMs would let a parent and skittish kid in to the accessible entrance where you don't take the stretching room? Is there such a think at Disneyland? I thought I read there was. Seems a little naughty, and they might think "if the kid is that scared of screams he shouldn't go on", but I dunno, my kid was fine until the shrieking started...seems it was the screams that got to him.

All that said, once I saw the HMH version, I was glad E hadn't gone on it. Especially b/c I was freaked out by it, and would have had a hard time containing my "bleah I hate this" reaction.

People scream on Pirates?????? That's just sad.

I have to say that you don't experience it that much in Florida because there are more tourists/ non locals that visit there as opposed to the California parks. Out here we heavily rely on the local market.

On Monday I had an ADULT male standing right behind me scream so loud during in the HM stretching room that I felt like it damaged my ear. My ears rang for several minutes afterward. It's not just teenagers . . . :sad2:

This weekend I took DD on Casey Jr. and when we went through the tunnels a group of teenagers were screaming like they were being killed. It scared DD half to death. She refused to ride it or any other ride that was dark or was on a train track. VERY frustrating to me and very scary to a 3 year old.

I'm curious- what do you confront them with?

Give me some tips for next time this happens!

This sounds so frustrating! I wonder if there is anything we can do on a larger level - anyone have any ideas for who we could talk to?

Maybe we should all just squirt the offending screamers with squirt guns...

Wow, I thought it was me just getting old and cranky. The screamers on POTC and HM really freaked my already skittish older boys. Totally stunk!

Yeah! Letter writing campaign! err, e-mailing campaign? What if we could mobilize the DIS to write a bunch of e-mails about this? Who to, I wonder?

We experienced HM with a group of 4 early/pre teen girls, they were screaming at the top of their lungs during the stretching part, it was awful.
