teenager at Pleasure Island

My dh & I have a dd, age 15 and then 4 little children, 7 and under. We are thinking that a few evenings, dh & I would take turns staying "home" with the little ones while the other goes "out" with our teen. I'm sure she'd have fun at Pleasure Island, but will she be allowed to enter the clubs, even with a parent? Or are there some clubs that only allow adults?

PI is an adult-oriented part of WDW. There are 1 or 2 clubs that require guests to be 21 or older to enter. At most other locations, she should have no problem entering if accompanied by a parent/adult.

Someone on the DIS put it this way once: Would you take your 15-year old DD to a bar at home?

Most of the clubs are bars serving alcoholic drinks. Of course, you can get non-alcholoic beverages, too. Some of the entertainment is geared toward an adult audience. That's something to keep in mind before you take your DD there.

The Pleasure Island Jazz Club is fine for kids, but don't know if your teenager is into that. DH and DS went to PI and spent all evening there-DS is a Jazz studies major, so he's really interested.

Try DisneyQuest if you are looking for evening entertainment. All the children can go there, even the little ones. PI is not for teens.

My 14 year old son and I went to Pleasure Island two different nights during our week long trip to Disney World in August and we had a great time. He is very mature for his age and he really enjoyed the clubs at Pleasure Island. I was with him the whole evening and there was no problem at all. We especially enjoyed the Adventurer's Club, the Comedy Club, and 8-Trax. Sure, it is a party atmosphere and there is alcohol being served but you just have to use your own discretion and personal judgement. I did not have a problem with taking my son to Pleasure Island and I would take him again. We had a good time going together and it was a fun outing for us! Just my two cents worth!

I would amend that to say "It depends on the 15-year-old."

Those folks that equate PI with bars (as in, "Would you take your 15-year-old to a bar"), have been reading way too much propaganda. Walking on to PI is not even remotely like walking into a bar. The only thing that the two experiences have in common is that you will find alcohol in both places.

Pleasure Island is set up for adults, yes. But if you go early in the evening, there are plenty of things for teens to enjoy in the company of their parents. The Comedy Club and Adventurer's Club aren't going to present anything that's more racy than you could see on "Who's Line Is It Anyway," "Saturday Night Live," or any show of that type. The dancing on the outdoor stages is no worse than something your teen would see on MTV (and it's actually far tamer). There are no more drunken people wandering about than you'd find at a pro sporting event or the county fair. And the dance clubs like 8 Trax and Rock & Roll Beach Club are the same as the dance clubs in every other town in the country. Better than most, from a security and cleanliness standpoint!

Every parent knows their own kid better than we do. And for those teens who like clubs and dancing and music and comedy clubs, and don't have a problem hanging out with their parents at such places, AND if the parents are responsible and keep an eye on their kids, then I think PI is a fine place to take a 15-year-old for entertainment. Just leave by 11!

Only you can decide if you want to take a 15 y/o to PI. Use YOUR judgement and don't be swayed by others. You know what the environment is.

You can get her into most clubs - and honestly, I think she'd enjoy it. Especially the Comedy Club and the Adventurer's Club. One suggestion I'd make, though, is to go Sunday-Wednesday. It's less crowded then and you're more likely to have less of a "bar" experience.

Oh, and YOU might want to go with her. I know when I was 15, I wouldn't have been caught dead at PI with my dad, but would have had fun with my mom. Maybe Dad can do Disney Quest with her and the ladies can have PI.
