Teenage Acne Treatment

And what I was told by dermatologist is that if one gets acne as a kid/teen it will go away eventually (though stinks to have it during school years) but if one gets acne as an adult (like me, when I was about 22 I started getting it) then it's for life (and I am now 42 and still have it).
I wish I knew when eventually is supposed to be. I've had acne since I was 11. Almost 30 years later and it still hasn't cleared up. It's definitely lessened since my teen and college years, but my skin has never been completely clear. My dermatologist prescribed accutane for me as a teen, but I didn't use it. I'm kind of wishing I had.

Lots of sensible advice here, but I want to add changing pillowcases often and new washcloths daily really has helped my teen son.

You may also consider changing their diet. We went Paleo - basically fruits, veggies and meats. It did a wonder to our skin. No sweets, dairy, bread, wheat, processed or fried food. It's tough at first but once you get the hang of it, it's GREAT!! The results are amazing. We even lost a few pounds along the way. Many of those creams for acne have steroids in them. The steroids caused our skin to go bonkers so we had to stop using it and try something natural. I lady on a cruise had the same thing and suggested we try the Paleo diet. Best decision we ever made. We cheat every once in a while but for the most part we try and stick to it.

Twin 13 yr boys here, athletes, chest acne was an issue as well. They use solodyn and epiduo, which has helped as long as they stay consistent and follow the dermatologist's advice (cuz I don't don't know ANYthing! Lol)

Did your boys use the Epiduo on their chest, as well? My son's chest and back acne have gotten way worse with the Glytone spray they sold us, but we've been using Epiduo for his face, and it's slowly getting better.

Well, we went back to the Derm for son's 6-week follow-up. We saw a different nurse practitioner this time, and told and showed her that his facial acne is slowly starting to improve, but the chest and back acne have gotten way worse. He's been on Solodyn, Epiduo, and Glytone back spray for 6 weeks now. She immediately said, "Accutane". But wow, after having to sign and initial so many releases, and them talking about the possible side effects, national database, etc., I'm leary. First of all, I don't think we've tried anything long enough to say it isn't working. I've always heard that Accutane was a last resort. When she mentioned that he shouldn't take any supplements while on Accutane, however, I told her that he drinks protein shakes every day. She said protein can be the culprit of bad acne, which I didn't know. So, he's off that completely from now on. The Accutane, however, I'm going to have to think about. I do believe we'll stop the back spray, though.

My 13 year old has been really broken out on his forehead with acne. He's tried regular drugstore stuff and a 3 step system from clinique for several months and its still there. I read TONS of reviews online on amazon and other places. Something will have awesome reviews except for the few it didn't work for obviously. I've looked at everything from cleaners, to spot treatment, to all natural methods and mud masks. His cheeks are all clear its just on his forehead but it looks pretty bad. I don't mind to spend a little but don't want to break the bank trying dozens of different products. Any suggestions?
This will not be a popular solution for a teenager, but if he eats a clean diet (no sugar, no dairy, no grains, no processed foods -- but no sugar is #1) his skin will clear up. I unfortunately grew up in the days when doctors told you that your diet didn't matter and prescribed antibiotics. Now we know the effects of the Standard American Diet!
