My niece will be joing us for part of our upcoming trip. This is a graduation gift to her. She will be flying alone. 17yo. My only concern is how much traveling $ should I give her? As much as I love this kid, she can't hold onto a dollar;) I'm thinking 20.00 each way? But what if there are delays?

Laura--

Does she live near you?

If she does, get some of those dual signature Amex Travelers checks, and give her $100 worth to be used only in case of emergency, and $30 in cash. At the end, collect the checks she didn't need (hopefully) and deposit them in your bank account.

Anne,

She does live by me and her transportation to the airport (ewr) is taken care of, and we will pick her up at FLL. Also the ride home is all arranged. She's on Continental. The checks sound like a good idea, but I don't want her to think she's keeping the leftovers;)
I guess I'll tell her straight out, do not use unless it really is an emeregency.

Normally I would agree that $20 each way i more than enough. But sometimes non-stops do have to make a stop, and that's where she might need more.

I would also get her a pre-paid phone card.

Anne
