Technology Teaching woes

I teach at a large state university- primarily an old teacher's college. Classes started this week. The university has moved "hi-tech"....in my first classroom that holds about 45 students (I teach in this classroom for two of my courses).

Problem 1: There is no web connection- oh, and we don't print syllabi anymore, students are supposed to get them off the web. I can't bring up my webpage to explain the syllabus. Oh, and we innundated with the worm with all the students back on campus and everything is slow to crashing.

Problem 2: We now have a wireless keyboard in that room, but you have to stand in front of the 36" screen and my "largely endowed" butt blocks the view for at least 1/3 of the class.

Problem 3: The other classroom has similar problems- and this morning someone stole the wireless keyboard/mouse- so now no computer. The room no longer has an overhead projector (that's not hi tech). Chalk boards in are installed in one room/white board in the other. But the university no longer buys chalk or whiteboard pens, since it supports technology.

Long and short of it- if I plan on disseminating ANY reasonable amount of information to these poor students, I guess I will be bringing my "own" school supplies.... or maybe I should hand out a school supply list (chalk, whiteboard pens, erasers) to my students!

As much as I love technology, I am strongly considering going back to the slate and chalk method of teaching. At least it worked!

Thanks Dan! Had to vent- came home to use the computer because the server is so slow on campus. That darn worm is really wrecking havoc on our system. AT least I know tomorrow will be better- MY kids go back to school!

Loubon- that picture is going on my office door and in our lab first thing tomorrow morning....and my whole family is wondering what is wrong with me chuckling away in the study!

Oh, how I WISH I looked that good....instead I'm just a frumpy old professor! More like the lady in the cartoon!

And don't forget to help pick a date, Val, for the Oct/Nov Chicago area DIS meet. Stop by the meet board. You need to make it to a meet. You know how to get there??
