Technology is simply amazing

Thanks to DIS I discovered I can speak to text on my cell phone. What amazing technology. I have been using it, a lot, over the past week and I am amazed at how accurate it is. I also use it for my post-it notes app and my email.

Know what else it can do? Stand in for paper coupons. I got a 20% off Toys r Us email coupon, but forgot to print it out. No problem - I pulled up the email, and the cashier scanned it right off of my Droid. Love it!

What kind of phone do you have? I know mine does the text to speech but I haven't figured out if it does speech to text. That would be pretty cool tho.
I've received tons of email coupons that say "simply show this to the cashier on your smart phone, no need to print", unfortunately I don't have email on my phone so I can't do that just yet.

I missed it. How do you do it?

I have a Droid X. When the keyboard shows up it has a microphone picture at the bottom, press that and a window pops up and says "speak now" or something like that and you just start talking. It will analyze what you said and convert to text. There is a setting that you have to have on for it to work though.

I do this a lot too. I also have the barcode scanner app so if I am out shopping I can scan the barcode and see if it is less expensive somewhere else

I also love on the Nook app where you can highlight a word and look up the meaning on the internet

My Toys R Us won't do that. I have tried a couple of times and the manager at the only one here insists that you have to have the PAPER coupon so that he has something to turn in to corporate to justify the discount.
