Technical problem with McAfee (on line) virus protection

I have McAfee on line virus scan. It is set to automatically download every update that comes out. Normally, this is not a problem.............little yellow arrrow pops up on my task bar, indicating there is a download in progress...........takes a couple minutes, then a pop up appears telling me the download is complete. Simple, right? Well, for the past 2 days, this little yellow arrow is on the computer, but the progress of the download doesn't get past 0%!! I have tried to restart the compluter..........didn't help, it came right back. I ran virus scan to be sure there wasn't any other issues going on..........nope, computer's clean. I have emailed McAfee but still haven't heard back. This is really slowing the computer down.

Any one have any suggestions on how to get this thing to go away before I take a hammer to it??? It's not going to take much anymore to push me over the edge!

If you right click on the McAfee Security Center icon in the taskbar (ted red icon) and select Updates what happens?

Also, are you running a firewall (Zone Alarm, etc.) that might be blocking McAfee update from accessing the internet?

Can you reinstall the program, sometimes a file is corrupted and it needs a reintall or a repair install.

You were right on Dan. I had to uninstall both the McAfee Virus and firewall programs, then reinstall. Hasn't happened since.
