"Second - Glance Guys" by Streeter Seidell
Guys can change a lot over the summer. So when that first bell rings this year, be alert - and take a good look around you.
For me, going back to school in the fall was always exciting. (Not for Julie!) I couldn't wait to see old friends, meet new students...and check out how the girls looked after a few months away. I'd cast a fresh eye on my female classmates - and you should do the same with guys. A lot can happen in three months. A guy who's undateable is May could become hot property by September. Ahem I did.
In 7th grade, I was a short, chubby, brace-face kid who liked comic books and didn't have a prayer of getting a girl. But that summer, I decided to make a change. I grew my hair out, bought some new clothes, started skateboarding , lost the braces, and - thanks to genetics - grew about half a foot. I didn't really lose weight, but it was distributed differently on my body. I went back to school that fall taller, thinner, longer-haired - and a lot more confident. On day one, I noticed girls paying more attention to me. School became full of dating possibilites.
But it's not just looks that can change a guy. My friend Adam came back to school one year seemingly the same on the outside, but with a different outlook. He was still the goofy redhead I'd known since we were kids, but he was more comfortable with himself. And that made girls more comfortable with him. It may not have been as drastic as my transformation, but it worked just as well, if not better. In no time, Adam was dating a super popular, super attractive girl. (ME! lol..jk)
So when you scan the room in first period this year, check out the guys you once brushed off. Some may look different. Some may have new interests. Some may not have changed at all. But keep you eyes open - you might find that last year's loser is this year's prize.
(Phew, that's a lot of typing!)
