Team Hakuna Matata Introductions

scott--i also like the one with all the characters walking along the tree:thumbsup2 Thanks!

I also like the top picture, of the Simba, Timon and Pumba walking across the log, it shows some activity, and has more of a team concept. (Yea, I know I could tell Scott in person, but I wanted to post something.)

Hello Fellow Hakuna Matata team members!

My name is Donna, I live in St. Petersburg FL, and I have considered myself a ‘fun’ runner since 1997. I began running with a friend of mine that wanted to quit smoking, so we trained for the Gasparilla 5K, which is a huge local run in the Tampa Bay area. Well, we ran the 5K together, she did not give up smoking; however, she did quit running, and I continued! Here it is 11 years later, and I have just completed my second marathon. I have multiple 5K’s, 10K’s, and ½ marathons listed on my running resume, not time worthy to mention, as again, I will reiterate, “I am a mid-packer, run for the fun of it gal :tiptoe:

Just a few personal notes about myself, I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. I have lived in Florida for over 20 years. I am married and I have a wonderful 14-year-old daughter. I am a full time Business Process Analyst officer and a part-time student. I volunteer for various diversity clubs in our community, along with my daughter, who is currently a cheerleading instructor for the 4,5, and 6-year-old girls cheering for our Bandit flag football team :cheer2:!

I look forward to our long-lived, online relationship, as well as future FE’s :dance3:!

BTW, I vote for logo #1!

Hi Everyone,

I'm Cindy. I'm a forty something mother of 3 (ages DS6,DD3 & DD3). I've been married to my wonderful DH for 10 years. He's not a runner, but has mentioned in passing that he might start training for a 5K. I work 30 hrs a week at a biotech company.

I was on the track team in HS in the discus, shot put and javelin events. I joined the cross country team and have run ever since. I did have a brief hiatus during my pregnancies, but started back at it a year ago. I've always been a bit on the heavy side but thanks to all the support on the WISH weight loss thread I'm at the lowest weight I've been in 14 years.

I ran the 2008 WDW Marathon, plan to run the Minnie in May and another marathon in the Fall. Finding time to workout has been quite the challenge this past year. I'm hopeful that this competition will encourage me to be more creative in finding 15 minutes here or there to add in some weights or other cross training.

I'm very excited to be a part of team Hakuna Matata!!

Welcome to Donna, CindyLou and Diane!

This is going to be fun!!!!

Scott, Lynn, and Donna, I live in Canon City, about an hour southwest of Colorado Springs. Yes, where all the prisons are. I work at the oldest of them all - and sometimes I feel like I've been there all 110 years!!! :rotfl: I've been there 17 years now, mostly working in Time Computation, a busy and chaotic place. Exercising helps me keep my stress level down....

I have not done the Boulder Boulder and am not sure that's on my list of things to do, either. Connie and I did a 10k in the Denver Metro area last June that was a lot of fun - not huge, just a local race that was very enjoyable! We're giving some thought to the Garden of the Gods run in Colorado Springs......not MUCH thought, but some....

I vote - definitely this time - for the characters walking across the branch/log/tree/whatever. Maybe we could label the darned pig "Dave"??? :rotfl2:

HI; I'm denise. Been on these boards for over 10 yrs. Married to Mark for 33 years, 2 grown children, Miranda 29 and Nick 26.

Years ago I was a bit overweight and started a diet to lose those extra pounds and due to a major battle with my husband I was ticked off and could not find a way to calm myself. In January in New Hampshire we don't have many options. I went out in the snow and ice for a walk. I found all the sunny sides of the street and walked for 3 miles. When I got home I felt better, not any less ticked but better. Six months and 35 pounds later I loved powerwalking. Mark joined me in the walking although his stride is different than mine. Now 13 years later I still enjoy walking and my children now join us although they are runners.

My true passion is quilting and I said that I would never run another 1/2 marathon, I wanted to get back to my joy of quilting and creating. Somewhere around mile 8 of the 1/2 I figured I could do this and it wasn't that bad. Training had really paid off. My sewing suffered but I realized that preparation and mental attitude played a big role in my success as it does with anything

So with this miles challenge, I will have a reason to continue my walks, maybe not as intense as last year but will keep myself in shape and will strongly consider doing the 1/2 in 2009 and being on the Wish Scream Team for the full.

I just need to find a balance between the sewing, walking, job, family but not in that order. I couldn't give up my friends on the DIS, if I had nothing to train for, I'd turn back into a big blob of sewing mess.

I'll try to not disappoint anyone but the summer is my killer months that will be the TRUE test for me.

denise

Hi,

I am Margie, 62 years old, a widow, I have 1 DD, and 1 awesome grandson. I have been greatly blessed in that I have been able to stay home to take care of him.

I was born and raised in Michigan.
I walk for Fun.

I started walking to relieve stress.
My first race was the Columbus Marathon 2005, because I turned 60 and I could do it. I came in third in my division (because not many ladies over 60 walked)! :rotfl:

I prefer the Half Marathons both for the distance and the time involved in training.

I too like the characters walking across the log/tree limb.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

We're giving some thought to the Garden of the Gods run in Colorado Springs......

I would so love to run through the Garden of Gods and Kissing Camel in Colorado Springs. I remember going on field trips to both places as an elementary school child :cutie:! I would be a bit nervous however, due to the elevation and what I am used to running down here in Florida; big, big difference. I miss the mountains :lovestruc!

Hi Kids, I am on the road and will not be home till late Friday Night. Will try to work on a logo for us over the weekend. Next week is looking less hectic, I know Lynn is saying RIGHT!!!!!!

Garden of the Gods would be a beautiful place for a run. Yesterday the winds were in the low 70's saw three semi trailers blown over.

Did get a run in this morn on the hotel tread mill.

Sounds like we have a great team. We are Hakuna Matata, we have no worries it is the other teams that will have worries.

:goodvibes Wow! What a great team!! I am so excited that everyone is on board! This will be so fun!

I looked over the votes for the logo :surfweb: looks like the tree one wins, and it even has the darn pig! Scott, thanks for doing this for us! ;)

Don't forget to keep track, the games begin in just 2 days! :woohoo:

Wow, did I get on the right team or what......:grouphug:

I will post for both myself and DH cause I can never get him to post on here but will work on it,

I have been hanging around these boards for years, the WISH one for only 1 or 2. DH and I have both done 2 1/2 marathons with his first full coming up in Sept, I think I will wait until Disney for mine. We have both also done ToT and I did the Minnie.

Mike turned 45 Jan 16th and I will be 42 on Feb 25th. We have been married for 20 years but have been together for over 25. We have 2 teens Kevin is 18 and Kaitlyn is 15 going on 27.

Oh forgot, what we do, Mike is a caretaker for the school board and I am a insurance broker....NO IT IS NOT MY FAULT YOUR PREMIUMS ARE SO HIGH:lmao:

I think that is about it.

GO TEAM GO!!!!

:simba: :welcome: :simba:

Glad to have both of you!

I just have one question, Hockeychic....what's your real name??

Welcome, Denise, Margie, Kim and Mike!

Denise and Kim, I remember you from the "walker's wanna compare notes" thread! This is fun, isn't it? I keep wishing I could post exercise TODAY, but I'm waiting (impatiently) for Friday!

I'm afraid I might have to take over as the darned pig from Dave, because I have done nothing be eat since ToT!

:guilty: duh! I can't believe I forgot Hockeychic, Raggedy Ann and Kim were the same person. I apologize Kim and Mike. I must have eaten some Brain-no, there!! :scared1:

No problem I am horrible with names and always forget.

My computer is running super slow tonight and can't seem to be able to find the info.

Are we logging miles and hours, just hours or just miles??? Alot of my training and Mikes will be mins right now cause it is TM work and TM miles are always less then road miles at least for us. Just not sure what to log since we are late in joining this group.

Kim
