Sorry about your home, Jo. That is sad. I've moved SO much that I don't really have an attachment to any particular place. I was sorry to see our 1st apartment in Peoria, IL all run down though. It has some great memories attached....

Bolt was SO good! We really liked it.

Pie was delicious and if anyone cares, I made it with Light Vanilla Soy milk in place of the evaportated and it went fine. It was delicious.

I found out today that my childhood house, that we built, is being knocked down :sad2: It was a lovely house set in 2 acres of garden and they're knocking it down to build lots of little houses! (My Mum sold it about 14 years ago when Mum and Dad divorced but it's still MY house IYKWIM!) It's such a shame :sad1:

I am sorry Jo.

We drive by our old house everytime we are in Ottawa. Sadly the people who own it right now have ruined it. They tore up my mother's beautiful garden out front, cut down all the trees and painted it a horrid colour. So it may not have been torn down but it is ruined just the same. :guilty:

My parents sold their house 2-3 years ago or so. It was the house we moved into just before my 1st bday. The people who live there now aren't keeping it up. The fence is falling down, mowers and a tractor mower are left outside. It's a mess.

I feel for you Jo.

Hey I am back from "Bolt" I LOVED IT popcorn::! I laughed alot my family and I saw it in 3d :3dglasses not much more to it. It was better than I thought it was going to be! You HAVE to go see "Bolt" it is a good family movie too. My dad was laughing more than ME :lmao:! Enjoy the rest of your day everyone!

Hi girls! Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Although, now that it's pretty much over, I should just say that I hope you all HAD a good day!;)

Been super busy, still...always...and just got back from the World Saturday night so trying to ease myself back into reality:headache:

I can't even remember the last time I got to catch up so I don't know what's all going on with everyone, but I hope you're all well!!

I love this Story... It is a tough one.. And for a LOT of US
THIS HAS BEEN A ROUGH YEAR.
Some Physical, Some Emotional, Losses of Loved Ones. We have lost Trust and maybe lost a little Hope along the way.

This story reminds us... while WHAT we have delt with , or are currently dealing with, MAKES US STRONGER... if we let it.It also reminds us to be thankful..Thankful for those rough times. We can't quit, we can't give up. While Thorns hurt us, that skin they pierce.. changes it and makes it tougher to pierce the next time.. a little thing called "Scar Tissue". There is NOT A ONE of us with out Scars. And yes Ladies... and Guys... WE ARE TOUGH.

Love all of you
Happy Thanksgiving
Kathy

Sandra felt as low as the heels of her shoes as she pushed against a November gust and the florist shop door. Her life had been easy, like a spring breeze. Then in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a minor automobile accident stole her ease.

During this Thanksgiving week she would have delivered a son. She grieved over her loss. As if that weren't enough, her husband's company threatened a transfer. Then her sister, whose holiday visit she coveted, called saying she could not come. What's worse, Sandra's friend infuriated her by suggesting her grief was a God-given path to maturity that would allow her to empathize with others who suffer. "She has no idea what I'm feeling," thought Sandra with a shudder.

Thanksgiving? Thankful for what? She wondered. For a careless driver whose truck was hardly scratched when he rear-ended her? For an airbag that saved her life but took that of her child?

"Good afternoon, can I help you?" The shop clerk's approach startled her.
"I... I need an arrangement," stammered Sandra.
"For Thanksgiving? Do you want beautiful but ordinary, or would you like to challenge the day with a customer favorite I call the Thanksgiving "Special?" asked the shop clerk. "I'm convinced that flowers tell stories," she continued. "Are you looking for something that conveys ‘gratitude' this Thanksgiving?"

"Not exactly!" Sandra blurted out. "In the last five months, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong." Sandra regretted her outburst, and was surprised when the shop clerk said, "I have the perfect arrangement for you."

Then the door's small bell rang, and the shop clerk said, "Hi, Barbara ...let me get your order." She politely excused herself and walked toward a small workroom, then quickly reappeared, carrying an arrangement of greenery, bows, and long-stemmed thorny roses. Except the ends of the rose stems were neatly snipped: there were no flowers.

"Want this in a box?" asked the clerk. Sandra watched for the customer's response. Was this a joke? Who would want rose stems with no flowers! She waited for laughter, but neither woman laughed.

"Yes, please," Barbara replied with an appreciative smile. "You'd think after three years of getting the special, I wouldn't be so moved by its significance, but I can feel it right here, all over again." She said as she gently tapped her chest.

"Uh," stammered Sandra, "that lady just left with, uh... she just left with no flowers!"

"Right, said the clerk, "I cut off the flowers. That's the Special. I call it the Thanksgiving Thorns Bouquet."

"Oh, come on, you can't tell me someone is willing to pay for that!" exclaimed Sandra.

"Barbara came into the shop three years ago feeling much like you feel today," explained the clerk. "She thought she had very little to be thankful for. She had lost her father to cancer, the family business was failing, her son was into drugs, and she was facing major surgery."

"That same year I had lost my husband," continued the clerk, "and for the first time in my life, had just spent the holidays alone. I had no children, no husband, no family nearby, and too great a debt to allow any travel."

"So what did you do?" asked Sandra.

"I learned to be thankful for thorns," answered the clerk quietly. "I've always thanked God for good things in life and never to ask Him why those good things happened to me, but when bad stuff hit, did I ever ask! It took time for me to learn that dark times are important. I have always enjoyed the 'flowers' of life, but it took thorns to show me the beauty of God's comfort. You know, the Bible says that God comforts us when we're afflicted, and from His consolation we learn to comfort others."

Sandra sucked in her breath as she thought about the very thing her friend had tried to tell her. "I guess the truth is I don't want comfort. I've lost a baby and I'm angry with God."

Just then someone else walked in the shop. "Hey, Phil!" shouted the clerk to the balding, rotund man.

"My wife sent me in to get our usual Thanksgiving arrangement... twelve thorny, long-stemmed stems!" laughed Phil as the clerk handed him a tissue-wrapped arrangement from the refrigerator.

"Those are for your wife?" asked Sandra incredulously. "Do you mind me asking why she wants something that looks like that?"

"No...I'm glad you asked," Phil replied. "Four years ago my wife and I nearly divorced. After forty years, we were in a real mess, but with the Lord's grace and guidance, we slogged through problem after problem.

He rescued our marriage. Jenny here (the clerk) told me she kept a vase of rose stems to remind her of what she learned from "thorny" times, and that was good enough for me. I took home some of those stems. My wife and I decided to label each one for a specific "problem" and give thanks for what that problem taught us."

As Phil paid the clerk, he said to Sandra, "I highly recommend the Special!"

"I don't know if I can be thankful for the thorns in my life." Sandra said to the clerk. "It's all too...fresh."

"Well," the clerk replied carefully, "my experience has shown me that thorns make roses more precious. We treasure God's providential care more during trouble than at any other time. Remember, it was a crown of thorns that Jesus wore so we might know His love. Don't resent the thorns."

Tears rolled down Sandra's cheeks. For the first time since the accident, she loosened her grip on resentment. "I'll take those twelve long-stemmed thorns, please," she managed to choke out.

"I hoped you would," said the clerk gently. "I'll have them ready in a minute."

"Thank you. What do I owe you?"

"Nothing. Nothing but a promise to allow God to heal your heart. The first year's arrangement is always on me." The clerk smiled and handed a card to Sandra. "I'll attach this card to your arrangement, but maybe you would like to read it first."

It read: God, I have never thanked You for my thorns. I have thanked You a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorns. Show me that I have climbed closer to You along the path of pain. Show me that, through my tears, the colors of Your rainbow look much more brilliant."

G-luv: Happy Turkey Day!

LL: Hey Stranger! Nice to "see you"! How are the boys? And did you have a wonderful time in the WORLD!?

************
Played Scrabble with Gus, Sd and my mom. It was stressful. My mom has developed this habit of humming to herself. It's driving me BATS. Really!!! The boys did great though. Gus had 93 points, and I think that's amazing!

I'm about to head in to bed. The boys just went down to bed and to read for a bit. I'm not really going to bed but I need a BREAK from the Gmas!

Hi TE...

IS everything O.K.... ??:guilty:

Been missing you

How is DAD getting along now ??

Come see me sometime

Miss you too!

He's doing ok for now--can't take anymore Remicaid so we're just crossing our fingers to see how he will do this winter.

We got Nana home from the nursing home on Tuesday! :thumbsup2 She's glad to be home, but I think she'll miss the friends and activities there too.

I can forward you my list...

Man... I flip back a page... and BAM.... Janet changes over to Christmas
Poor Turkey did not even have a chance to get cold :rotfl2: And she threw him out:rotfl2:

Just in case you're talking to me......I sent you my cell number! I text quite a bit now with both girls having phones! Plus I got a new Samsung 520 slider that I really like this week! (you WERE talking to me, right?? Cause I'd hate to get my hopes up that I'd actually get a text..... ) ;)

You too  Hope you get more time to DIS soon!

Sorry about your house. :grouphug:

Getting close to coming east......or is it west.......guess it depends on which way the plane flies!

+++++++++++++++++++
Daran got back from Korea late Sun nite--he was turned around 14 hours for at least 2 days. I had to convince him that I really did not want to stay up till 1 am....no matter how long he'd been gone!
But I got nice jewelry, a silk scarf, and promise of nice Christmas gift! :thumbsup2

.....he ate silkworms........that sounds bad, right???

+++++++++++
Cooked Thanksgiving today which was nice---it was supposed to be at my MIL but she got sick--I have a better kitchen for it anyway, and Daran loves to cook the turkey so it was all good!

Anyone shopping tomorrow? Besides Janet, I mean!;)
Ab doesn't want to get up early, so we'll probably head out later. Not much I really need at 4 am.
