"Teaching" cat to pee correctly?

Welcome to my world. 2 cats here, older cat is tall, stands at edge of box pee on walls not in box. Thought I solved the problem with inclosed litter box, caught him standing on top of box like he was the king. Now we are using a open box low sides. Our box is in the garage so this helps, but still scoup every day and add liter all the time. I do like the looks of the rubber maid, mighht try that next??

Bengals are typically smarter than the average cat. They get into things BECAUSE of that. I didn't have to train mine to do anything really. My son did teach him to climb the ladder to his loft bed in five minutes and he climbed up and down every day for the five years we had the bed. He can open doors and has ever been known to jump up and turn on a light(don't know if he meant to do that, but he's done it twice:lmao:) He walks on a leash. Best of all, he is the softest, sweetest cat I have ever had, and he is a big snuggle bunny at night.

Bengals are active, so they either need an owner who is home a lot, playing with them, or another Bengal or high energy cat to keep them exercised. Otherwise they will get into everything. Oh, and the running into the door may be because he is bored or trying to get out. My bengal constantly climbs the door jambs of all my doors and sometimes he will run and slide into walls when he can't stop fast enough, LOL. We got two kittens 18 months ago, and he loves having someone to play with.

They need a lot of exercise

Thanks for explaining about Bengals. :thumbsup2 That explains a lot. Sigh. That cat is exhausting! The other cat isn't high energy like the Bengal is, so that may be part of the issue.

Yes...Bengals are a whole other story! I joined a few bengal yahoo groups and they are very helpful to learning about the breed and their quirks!:thumbsup2

Yes, Bengals are a whole different animal! I'll check out those groups. Thanks! I really want to like this cat. She's pretty and I love her coat. It just would be nice if she would act like a "normal" cat (whatever that is) once in awhile and be good! :lmao:

I would focus on just getting her to pee in the box, though I'm uncertain of how to coach that.

I have a cat who cannot squat after an injury several years ago. Her hind quarter "knees" do not bend.

We cannot do a high box b/c we have to consider her ability to enter and exit. But she is able to otherwise leave it all in the box.

Nothing wrong with peeing standing up.

A high walled box, or a covered box would prevent the kitty from peeing on the wall/furniture. But you have to remember, there is still an opening and if she/he wishes to have her butt in the breeze while they tinkle--it may not work. But it is worth a shot.
