Recently had a Promethean installed in my classroom and would love to know what your favorite/most used flip charts are.

We're currently learning multiplication facts and we'll be starting time (then 3D shapes, then measurement, then fractions) after spring break.

Any tips for the newbie?

The best advice I can give you is to go to the Promethean Planet website and use the search function on what you are looking for. There are thousands of great flipcharts that teachers have already created and have put up on the site.

The website lets you preview the charts and then you can download what you like. Once you save the flipchart, then you can go in and make any changes that might work best for your class.

Good luck! I loved my promethean board! :teacher:

I've been using my ActivBoard for four years. Like the PP said, I found a lot of great flipcharts by using the search function. When I found one I liked, I would make changes to it and save it on a flash drive.

For the past few years, I've made my own flipcharts. It's really addicting and so much fun! I now have flipcharts for all of our weekly language lessons and math, science, and social studies skills. The kids absolutely love using the board, and it keeps them engaged, which I like.

We have Smartboards in my school, but one teacher has a Promethean board. They were trying to decide which one to get and preferred the Smartboard, but since they bought one, she had to keep it. Anyway, she uses a lot of the Smart Notebook software on her Promethean board and actually prefers it over the things from Promethean.

We have a few promethean boards in our building (unfortunately I don't have one in my room yet!). We were trained on it for about 45 minutes one day... that's it. I use Promethean Planet for the things I can find and ActivInspire to create the flipcharts that I need.

We also have used BrainPopJr on it with ActivVoters and read from websites on it (we have subscriptions to Raz-Kids for projectable books, and First-In-Math to demonstrate math games). Recently another teacher showed me how to use ActivInspire to highlight, circle, etc. in a document, so now we use the promethean board to find answers to comprehension questions in text and we highlight where we found the answers.

Anyway, enjoy your promethean board! There's so much to do on it! You'll love having it in your room!

Oh my! We had two, full-day trainings on it and I still don't feel I know it well enough. It is definitely a worthwhile classroom tool. My teammate has had hers for over a year now and I feel her kids from last year had really had an edge over my class because of it.
