Here I'll do it.

Id love to have a job where I get 2 months off in the summer, 2 weeks every christmas (vs hoping I can get it), a week off for thanksgiving (vs hoping I can get it) a week in october and a week in march.

Teachers just like to complain ;)
Every public school district in the USA is hiring. They will make a position for you if needed!

Most teachers would loss their jobs if they decided to take a vacation during school days, as apposed to parents who have kids and take them out of school for a vacation. It makes it a little harder on a teachers family to plan vacations.
Depends on where you live. Northern states have strong unions and nicely written contracts. My district get 4 personal days that we can use any time we want (consecutively or scattered throughout the year)......our district is not allowed to ask us a thing about what we are taking them for either. We can also take them butted up to already days off, like President's day

Depends on the district. While the contracts are really solid, they also have to abide by state and county rules and some of those are stricter and more iron clad than the contracts

Not in Ohio. There are no "state or county" rules that dictate how many personal days we can have as a district or how the teachers use them. In Ohio, our districts have individual unions and contracts. So the district next to mine may only give their teachers 2 or 3 personal days and may have a "no Friday or Monday" clause in it, while mine has 4 days and no black out day clause. The county doesn't have any say in our contract and the state only has the minimum days that students have to be here.

Go Ohio! Seriously that is amazing.

Former teacher here, now Mom to two high schoolers so it feels like a teacher schedule again because I’d never take them out now- it’s too hard for them to miss and make up work in 7 courses.

Our favorite time used to be late August until our school board changed the calendar start times and now we go back to school earlier. Plus, high school fall sports start the first Monday in August so that’s out. Now we go in June/July. And yes it’s hot, but we live in Virginia and it’s hot here in the summer too so it really isn’t much of a difference. Second most favorite time is spring break because that’s an actual break when nobody has any sort of school commitments . I prefer if spring break is not in the week before or after Easter (like 2022 👏🏻) as our school board has made spring break always to be the first week of April no matter what. I love Christmas time and would choose that every time but we usually only do that if we have annual passes that year. It’s just too crowded to get everything done that we want to do if that’s the only trip for us that year.

1st grade teacher. I’d say 1/3 my class takes a week off at some point to travel, often to Disney. We like to travel the first week or last week of summer, tends to be Memorial Day weekend into early June or the last week of July. With my kids’ sports, early summer is getting harder and spring break is impossible. We are trying right after Christmas this year to see how that goes. I am taking one day off (1/4) to do so. I secured my sub in September. FWIW we get 13 personal days with no actual restrictions (used to have the before/after holiday blackout, but that dropped a few years ago). But in reality.., we get the serious stink eye if we take them. A colleague recently wanted to take a mental health day and was told she couldn’t because two of her teammates are out on medical leave, one long haul Covid. My colleague has to plan and prep for the long term subs in addition to her own class, hence needing the day off. It was denied as unnecessary. So, I’m pretty sure 5 days for a leisure trip would be a no
go!
