Teacher Craft Ideas?

Every year at our school, a couple of parents sub. in each classroom. The teachers get most of the day off for a shopping day. We provide them a lunch and off they go. While we sub, we usually make crafts to take home and a craft for the teacher to keep from the kids. I need ideas for a teacher who has been teaching for 20+ years, and who has gotten probably everything. I know she has gotten a flower post with the name of the kids, t-shirts, bag, scarf. Any new creative ideas? This is something for the kids to help make. This is Kindergarten class. Thanks.

If this is coming soon, how about a tree skirt for the Christmas tree, provided she celebrates Christmas.

Our TPA is really good to our teachers. We are doing this Dec. 9th. The class is going pick out their tree Dec. 2nd, but I do like the tree skirt idea. Please keep them coming.

I just got hooked on making soaps. YOu won't believe how simple it is! The only thing is you would have to do the class in groups -of like 2 or 3 @ a time. Just buy the melt & pour soaps-(Michaels/HobbyLobby is cheapest) & the molds-you can use candy molds or soap molds (candy molds come in cute characters---BLUE, DORA, etc).
YOu just heat the soap in microwave 30 seconds or you can do it in a crockpot (they sale one just for soapmaking---$25) & add color/fragrance to soap & then pour in mold - takes about 30 mins to set unless you throw in fridge - its quicker in fridge-then pop out & wrap up.

My dd's & neice made these about 2 weeks ago & LOVED IT! My neice is 11, dd #1 is 7 -BUT dd #2 is 2 1/2...& she added color & fragrance & stirred_all I did was pour into the mold! The soap doesn't get hot enough to burn you....

ALSO I would go to www.familyfun.com & look at the crafts there - there's always good stuff!

For my daughter's first grade teacher, I had each of the children take a different letter of the alphabet and think of a word that described their teacher. They came up with things like awesome, beautiful, nice, fun, etc. We wrote these letters and words on pieces of cotton fabric with fabric paint pens. (Some of the children needed a little help with this.) I then took these squares and made an ABC patchwork wall hanging/quilt. We had a little ceremony with each of the children saying their word and presenting the quilt to their teacher.

Another favorite is to buy a canvas director's chair and have the children decorate the canvas with paint pens. The students need help in dividing the canvas into areas for each of them to decorate. This is a nice teacher's gift because you can buy the tall director's chairs and they can use this in front of the classroom instead of standing all of the time. (This may not be as important with a kindergarten teacher.)

how about a snowglobe using a jam jar? paper weight? cross stitch book mark? cooking? poetry book, where the children write poetry...must say though it's a good idea having subs in, we dont get shopping days!

I like that idea. Maybe have each kid put their handprint on it and paint their name under it!

Michael's Crafts has wooden picture frame ornaments (ready to paint) on sale 3 for $2 (I think). I just bought a bunch this weekend for my Sunday School class. I'll take their pictures with my digital camera, print them out, and have them decorate the ornaments with glitter glue.

Maybe not so great for the teacher, but a fun present to send home to Mommy!

My DD's 5th grade teacher has a director's chair in her room that must have been a gift one year. All the kids signed it on the seat, and on the back is her name where it would say "director". For a kindergarten class maybe it would be cuter to just have them each do their handprint in different colors. I don't know if this is too expensive. I guess I've seen director's chairs at PierOne for about $40 - $50.
