Teach me Spanish for the parks!!

I’d love to learn a few phrases that we can use to interact with Spanish-speaking families in the parks. When you’re standing in line together, I’d like to be able to say a few words in Spanish, even if they speak English—it just always seems more respectful to me to do that, and most people seems to appreciate it.

Just thinking of some simple phrases like “who’s your favorite character” or “what’s your favorite ride?” My DD loves children (she’s studying to teach first grade), so she’d really enjoy these tidbits to interact with some of her kids at school, too. Gracias to anyone who wants to play along!!

(use "están" if talking to a group of people)

- "¿Cómo te llamas?" = What is your name?
(say "cómo se llaman" if you are addressing a group)
"Me llamo _____" = my name is _____

- "¿De dónde eres?" = where are you from?
(use "son" instead of "eres" if you are addressing a group)
"Soy de _____" = I'm from ______

- "¿Qué personaje de Disney es tu favorito?" = which Disney character is your favorite?
"Mi personaje favorito de Disney es _______" = my favorite Disney character is ______

- "¿Cuál es tu atracción favorita en Disney World/aquí?" = what is your favorite ride/attraction at Disney World/here?
"Mi atracción favorita en Disney World/aqui es __________" = my favorite ride/attraction at Disney World/here is _________

- "Espero que estén disfrutando de sus vacaciones" = I hope you're enjoying your vacation!

- No sé español muy bien, pero quiero aprender a hablar español mejor" = I don't know Spanish very well, but I want to learn how to speak Spanish better

Wow, thanks!! Those are great! Of course, it seems to take a lot of words to say I don’t know many words.... But I’ll have to practice that one, for sure, because when I was in Japan and spoke a sentence or two, the older folks always seemed to assume I knew what I was doing and launched off into a whole discussion!! So funny.

It's definitely more of a descriptive language, but it's such a beautiful one! I think it's so cool that you want to learn, and you are right that it is more respectful to talk to a person in their native language (when you can!). You can also tell them "yo hablo en inglés" for "I speak English" or "Inglés es mi primera lengua" for "English is my first language"!

My favorite phrase in Spanish is "Dos cervezas, por favor! " Which means "two beers, please"
