Y'all forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I just saw a post on the restaurant board that TE is going to stop doing lunch in a couple of weeks. Sounds odd to me but I thought I'd see if anyone else has heard this.

I haven't heard anything about this.

But it doesn't surprise me.

A year or so ago, they tinkered with the lunch menu by eliminating hot foods from the buffet, except, I think, soup. You basically could make yourself a sandwich or have soup and salad. After a lot of complaints, they brought back a limited amount of hot food choices. Emphasis on the limited.

Trail's End is never busy at lunch.

Which really isn't that hard to believe given the limited selection and the price they charge for it.

So, I could see some bean-counter concluding that it would be more cost effective to go dark at lunch time.

Which is a shame.

Yeah, they wouldnt want to do something crazy like come up with a better product at a good price, that just wouldnt make sense.

T.E. was a ghost town during lunch hours while were at the Fort.

Just a few years ago it was packed B, L and D.

What a shame that what used to be one of WDW's best kept secrets is going downhill.

Now that I think of it, it wasn't even very crowded when we passed by during dinner hours either. Pity.

I do remember reading about them making changes to lunch last year now that you mention it TCD. I hate to see TE cutting back on a whole meal, but the more I think of it, I've never noticed many people in there for lunch, including us. We always do a breakfast or two, and sometimes a dinner, but never lunch. I guess we'll just see what they do.

Pity.

Disney's strategy,,"Bleed'em for all you can, then when it's ruined and sucks and nobody wants it, bleed'em some more,,then close it down for 20 years."

I think it's at the close stage now.

My last trip I went there for soda many times from breakfast – dinner. To tell you the truth if it wasn’t for the wait staff I would have been the only one there. I would love to see them upgrade the food, add the items they took off back and just open for dinner and stay open until 12am.

1) Whoa !
2) Now you are thinking with logic.
3) That is not allowed when discussing Disney decision making.

You havent heard the new Disney Motto? If its not broke, we can fix that?

Breakfast and lunch were the only times we ate there, but that's been years now. Got too expensive and food selection was poor. We started just having breakfast at camper and made plans for off-days to eat off-site and other days just at the camper. I would think with the number of people who take afternoon breaks lunch would be busy...if they had a product to actually offer. Maybe if it closes for lunch TCD could sneak in and get some spy pictures :-)

Maybe its me, but I can see where Disney is getting cheap in a lot of things, and trying to charge the same or more for a lesser product. Theres been a lot of things they have closed or did something as a cost saving measure, that has not stood up to the Disney quality, at least in my eyes.
For example, over at Epcot, they have the Energy Pavillion and the Wonders of Life Pavilion closed, and havnt done anything with them or even open them for seasonally, as well as the Odysey restaurant. Both attractions were inside lines, and were great places to get out of the rain, and the Wonders was a great place for kids to actually learn something about life. The Odysey was a great place to grab lunch, if you werent the type that likes "themed" foods.

Theyve done the same with the cruiseline, where back when the ships first sailed, they had great snack foods onboard. The hamburgers were huge, from the snack bar, and tasted great. They also offered prime rib and a few other normally high dollar foods. Noticed about the second year or so, that the food style seemed to change and the prime rib seemed to disapear, and some of the other offerings, such as champange greets, disapeared. Then I noticed, a Disney refridgerated trailer on its way to the ships. Somewhere along the line, the ships are now getting a lot of the food that the parks get.

Saw an article that explains a lot of it. The CFO, was quoted in the paper as saying that they were still spending alot of money in benefits. I wouldnt be a bit surprised, if the new mentality in Burbank, is the bottom line, instead of giving the guests the quality Disney has been famous for for all of these years. All you have to do is look at the condiiton of things, and whos being hired lately.

I dont mind paying a little more for things, as long is the quality is there or better then I can find anywhere else. But if someone tries to pass off something less at the same price, Im going somewhere else. Ill give them benefit of the doubt and try them again just to be sure that it wasnt a fluke.I love TEB, but wont be going anytime soon,if the quality doesnt improve.

Thanks! Did not know that after all this time. Have to agree 100% with you. We're skipping DW this year and going to US and IOF. Got great tickets from Mapleleaf for $131/14-day park hoppers (that special is gone now) because DD & SIL couldn't afford the DW tickets. Also have switched to a pool house off-site because it's so much cheaper and you get so much more.
