Going to Orlando with my daughter just for the sun. We will not be going to any parks. We are staying at the Hilton Orlando which is on the corner of International Drive. I was thinking of using the trolley and taxis to get around. Is this a bad idea and I'd be better off with a rental car??? :confused3

I would guess that there is a rental car desk at the hotel if the need arose.

I would rent a car. YOu will end up spending $15 - $20 on cab and that is just one way. So your round trip could cost you as much at $40 before tip! I rented a car this past Feb and spend $86 for the week!

And a cab to and from the airport will be $42 one way before tip.

I would check and see if there is a parking charge at the hotel first, and if they offer an airport shuttle. The cab ride to/from the airport may very well add up to the cost of a cheap rental, but if you don't plan to drive while there, parking costs could eat that up. A shuttle service from the airport could make the difference there.

Not sure which Hilton on I-Drive you are at (there are 3 Hilton properties that I can see including the two HGVC's), but pretty sure all are along the trolley route. For getting to a lot of restaurants and shopping on I-Drive, the trolley is an inexpensive and fun option. But if you plan to venture off the I-Drive corridor at all, or on making a foray into the parks, then the car rental probably starts to make a lot more sense.

I would also look to see how much a rental car would be. You may be shocked at how much just a few cab rides may cost you! From the airport to a Disney resort is roughly $50, from Disney to Marriott's Grande Vista for me one night was $50 also! And yes, I know my way around so he wasn't taking some long route, it's just that night my DH dropped me and the kids off at the MK to meet up with my friend and her kids (husbands did other things that night).

You can frequently find good deals on cars in Orlando - and unless I'm staying AT a Disney resort I would definitely have a car.

Plus, if you do decide to do shopping, and you end up with a couple bags, you can store them in the trunk and drive somewhere for dinner. You won't be stuck taking the trolly carrying bags with you. I think you'd have more freedom with a car.
