Taxi or Shuttle from LGB?

DH and I, WDW vets, are planning on making our first trip to Disneyland in October. We'll be staying at the Grand Californian and flying into Long Beach. Because we plan on staying in just the Disneyland area, we've decided to take a shuttle rather than rent a car. It looks like SuperShuttle serves LGB for $42 each way for 2 people (33 + 9). However, according to the LBG website, a taxi would only be $33 each way?

For LBG veterans, would you recommend the taxi over SuperShuttle (and does that taxi quote look right for 2 people?). Many thanks!

I have only flown into LAX but personally I would go with the taxi. With Supershuttle you will need to wait until it's full before it leaves then it may make several stops. That was our experience with Supershuttle from LAX.

Thanks for the tip, KAMLEM! We're arriving from MA also, so after the long flight we'll want to get to the GC as soon as possible. I'm fidgety enough on the 3 hour flight to WDW

I was surprised that the taxi appears to cost less, unless that quote was for just one passenger? After being so comfortable traveling around Orlando's airport, I find myself quite at a loss with Long Beach.

I've flown into LGB a few times, but each time have ended up renting a car. Using various discount codes from mousesavers.com I have been able to rent a car for less than the cost of a shuttle. The shuttle quote you got is about what I've been quoted. I never got a quote for a taxi so I don't know if that is accurate or not.

I don't think the rule of waiting for the shuttle to fill before it leaves applies at LGB. You might have to wait hours to get it full since the airport is so small. Not like LAX where there are hundreds of passengers landing every minute.

By the way, LGB is about 1/100 the size of MCO. There are only 4 gates and no jetways. You will walk down the stairs of the plane onto the tarmack, then into the terminal. Just wanted to let you know so you won't be shocked when you get there.

Thanks, got2travel! We had originally thought about renting a car, but considering I won't tackle the Boston roads, I didn't think I'd be the best candidate to drive on LA's roads. So I figure we're stuck with either a shuttle or the taxi.

Interesting point-- thanks!

Ah-ha. I hadn't realized that. The smallest airport I've flown into before was Islip in NY, but we still had a jetway. Never deplaned on the tarmac before, so thanks for the heads up!

The only problem with renting a car is that you have to pay to park at some hotels and it can get very expensive. We're going for 10 days in July and parking is $11 a day so that's $110. We had a very good experience with Supershuttle.

EeyoreJMH-where in MA are you from?

Mmm . . . hadn't thought about parking fees at GCH, too. Another good reason not to go with the rental. We're going with annual passes, so I doubt we'll be doing much else besides the hotel, DL, and CA.

Thanks again!

I don't believe the taxi quote of $33. It was slightly more than than one way from the DLH to Orange County (John Wayne).

Parking should be covered at the GCH (part of the resort fee). Many other places do charge daily parking fees. Either way, renting a car is usually not worth it if you are only going to DL.

Thanks, CalGal. That taxi fee did look suspiciously low. After reading the advice above, I think we'll try SuperShuttle!
