Taxes done yet?

I haven't filed yet because we itemize, but I have them done so I at least know what the refunds (fed and state) will be.

Done and sent to state for a refund, but we owe a ton to federal so they won't get it until April 18th.

DH was sorely tempted to fill in the "victim of theft" part with what we paid in federal taxes last year.;)

What is the new law so people cannot file to mid february with mortgage interest? I have to itemize, since I have mortgage interest and home equity loan interest. And charitable donations. So I guess I fall into the same category?
Apparently I haven't been paying attention to the new tax laws:lmao:

I see on the irs website that you can begin filing on February 14th.

I do mine as soon as the tax filings are accepted, I don't wait for my tax forms, I can find everything I need either on my last pay stub or online at the various companies I do business with that are tax liabilities or deductions.

I work to get as small of a return or owe as little as possible (as close to zero as I can get) as I see no point in giving the Federal government more money then I need to over the course of the year, just to get it back without interest the following year.

It wasn't so much the "new" law, but that they waited until the last possible moment to pass the code. Because of that, the computer systems had to be updated, and that is causing the delay.

I just got my W2 from work yesterday. I'm still waiting for my interest information from my bank.

You don't want to know what we pay in taxes every year, but then again, you live in MD so you probably pay as much as we do to the Fed gov. We pay in more than what is considered the poverty line for a family of 4 and that's just Federal taxes. Yikes.

We don't have all of our tax statements yet so we can't file, that and we have to wait for the form update because we itemize and have education expenses. I have what we have now entered into Turbo Tax but we are still waiting for all of our investment paperwork and my W-2.

Same here. The past several years I have gone through the entire itemize exercise and had TurboTax say we are better off with the standard deduction. :confused3: It's good practice, and I know we are not paying more than we should.

no, we don't have DH's W2 yet. we don't itemize, so we should be able to go ahead and file once he gets it. although, i heard on TV you couldn't file until mid-feb if you had mortgage interest, and we have plenty of that, lol.

i've tried to itemize before, but turbotax always recommends that we go with the standard deduction. :confused3

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Usually when people say they have "plenty" of mortgage interest they are better off itemizing. Our mortgage interest alone gets us over the standard deduction which I why I asked :lmao::lmao::lmao:
