Tax software

We normally get our taxes done by H&R Block but were dissatisfied with them last year. I want to do it on my own this year but I'm not sure what software I should try. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would be looking for both Federal and State.

I used taxact online last year. Federal was free and I think it was $12 for state.

I spent a tax season working for Block...not a good experience. However, last year I used Turbo Tax and the software was BETTER than we what we used at Block. Good luck.

I have used both TaxCut and TurboTax. I like them both, they both do the same job. I can't comment on any of the other software as I haven't used it.

I use Online Taxes every year now. They save your info from year to year, which makes it insanely easy to use. They do federal and state returns, and it's really inexpensive... I think it was $7 for my federal (we don't have state here). They are at www.olt.com .

I have used Turbo Tax for many years without problems. They have different levels you can buy, like if you need one for home and small business, etc. Usually the state download is free with their offers and they usually have a mail-in rebate for a free e-file, you can file right from your computer. If you pick direct deposit for your refund it is usually in your account in about 2 weeks if you file early, Feb/early March. It is a question and answer type program so it will ask you if you have sold a home, bought a home, moved, started a new job, etc. so it knows what forms you will need.

The first time you use it, plan on it taking a while because you have to enter all your information but each year after that it will pull your information from the previous year's taxes and that speeds up the process.

Another Turbo Tax user. We're on our third year with it and pretty happy.

We used H&R Block for years, but they made a mistake on our return one year. What a mess. Then we went through a regular accountant until we discovered Turbo Tax.

I love Turbo Tax.. I use to go to Jackson Hewitt b/c we have rentals, stocks, etc...but I can do the same, if not better w/Turbo Tax ourselves b/c it asks you questions that our tax guy didn't I love it!

Another Turbo Tax user here. We used the Mac version for a couple of years in the mid-80's until we swapped to a PC platform. We've also filed our returns electronically since the first year that option was available, and have never had any problems.

I've been using TurboTax for over 15 years. Back then it used to come on six 3.5inch floppies (you could get 5.25in disks if needed!).

Tubo Tax! It's very easy! Of course, it would be much easier if DH would stop deleting our returns from the computer year to year so last years data will transfer over to the new year...

I must be the only person left who does things the old-fashioned way! I'd use software but it's painful enough to file - I can't see paying for the privilege of filing online.

Yes.....you need to register on their site and once you sign in....to the left is a link to "free tax filing"......and it takes you to turbo tax
