What additional costs go on to the advertised price on the food menus for table service?

Tax? At what percent?

We'll be using a Tables In Wonderland card, so I know there's an automatic 18% service charge. When does the 20% discount come off? Off the final figure with tax added?

Also with counter service I'd like to know the same.

I'd be truely grateful of any help on this, as I'm a clueless Brit trying to budget!! :rotfl:

The tip amount is based on the price of your meal before the discount is taken. I'm pretty sure that the tax is also based on the price before the discount, but I'm not totally sure of that. I think the tax is 6.5%.

At the few counter services that take the TiW, there is no automatic gratuity added, that's only for table services places.

The gratuity is figured on the Pre-Tax amount and the Tax is calculated on the discounted amount.

A $100 bill would break down like this:
$100 - Food Bill
$18 - Gratuity
-$20 - Discount
$5.20 - Tax (6.5% on $80)
$103.20 - Total Bill

All tipping discussion is limited to The Disney Tipping Info Thread found here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2056032

I am going to leave this thread open, but ask that any further discussion regarding tip and gratuity take place in the tipping thread. Thanks! :goodvibes

Thanks for the formula Tricia!

There will be four of us dining together using a TITW card and payment coming from three separate pockets. So when we split the bill, I now know to take my menu item total and add 3.2%. And that this figure could be adjusted up when I wanted to leave more than the 18% tip.

From Example above of $100

My portion ordered $50
(Tip= $9)
Discount................-10

New total ..............$40
tax...................+ 2.60

New total.............$42.60
add in tip..............$ 9.00

Final total.............$51.60

Difference between items ordered and final total 3.2%

The basic Sales Tax rate in Florida is 6.0% and is on most goods and services. The counties have an option, by vote of their residents, to add a surtax of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% to the state rate.

Orange County, which is most of WDW, has a surtax of 0.5% so purchases (including meals) are taxed at 6.5%.

Osceola County, which has the All-Stars Resorts and Wide World of Sports in it, has a 1.0% surtax so purchases at those locations are subject to a 7.0% tax.

In addition, counties are allowed to have a tax on transient lodging. In both Orange and Osceola Counties it is 6.0%, so all lodging except the All Stars is 12.5% while the All Stars, in Osceola County, is 13.0%.
