Am I understanding something correctly, you CAN claim sales taxes paid on a vehicle bought in '05? Or can you only do this if you do NOT claim your state income tax? So you can do one or the other but not both? Oy! I am not very tax savvy so I need all the help I can get. :teeth:

I pondered this last year, we purchased a vehicle in Nov. 2004. I think I understood it that you could claim the tax on the purchase in lieu of the state tax. Have you checked www.irs.gov?

My friend just did this...this year...she purchased 3 vehicles  in 2005 and since it was way more than the state taxes that they took out for the year....they claimed the sales tax on the cars

iNTeNSeBLue98, I did check the irs.gov website. Thanks! Lisa L from MI, we bought just one vehicle and that sales tax is less than the state income tax, therefore, since I can't claim both I'll just be claiming the state. Thanks!
