It seems that each year there are new states offering the tax-free weekends for back to school shopping. I was just wondering how many states are offering it this year. And are YOU and your family taking advantage of it?

I'm going out today and might try to see what I can find. But at the same time I'm not sure if I want to deal with the crowds!

We have it here in Texas and I stay far far away from all the stores. My 17 yr went last night and today. Saving 8 bucks for everyone $100, for me, is not worth the fight you have to go thru.

Im from Texas also and I like the Tax Free weekends. I normally go pn Friday before the weekend crowds get going. I find really great sales anywhere from 25% off to about 50% plus you save not paying tax. I dont buy tons of clothes but I do like the savings, whatever amount it may be. It all adds up :D

Where I live (MN) we don't pay sales tax if you wear it (clothing, shoes etc) or eat it (unprepared food excluding certain "junk" foods) I often get taken by surprised when shopping elsewhere.

If I buy a shirt that's $19.99, it costs $19.99.

But we pay more than our fair share of income and property taxes :D

But, the only reason I'm going is the Buster Brown store where I like to get my daughter's clothes is going out of business as of Monday. I love their end of season sales, 50-75% off - buy for the next year.

I might add, it's at an outlet mall and that's the ONLY store I'm going to.

I live in Tennessee and we have no tax-free times :( Our tax is in the 9.25% range (it varies a little by counties) for everything--including food! I do a lot of shopping on-line to save taxes on clothes, books, etc.

My MIL just called and asked if I was planning on going shopping, told her yes, and she told me to come get $100 per child to take with me. Yippee!! :Pinkbounc Guess I'll have to hit more stores after all.

In Indiana, they are adding and raising taxes so fast ( I love the new term User Fee) we have no tax free anything. I wouldn't be surprised to see a double the tax weekend sometime soon.

I'm in Georgia and this year, instead of the tax free weekend we have 4 days of tax free time, this past Thursday till Sunday.

I took advantage of it yesterday while everyone was at work. I was very unimpressed. There are more things that are allowing the deduction than last year but the prices, miraculously have gone up about 10%...... Oh MY, how did THAT happen?

Give me a good sale and I'll pay the darned tax!

Just got back from the movies and the mall was packed!

 Well, that's not right of them to do at all!

You and campingcorgi can come over here with me and shop. They didn't inflate the prices on anything I looked at! ;)

I braved the crowds and nabbed a entrie outfit(peseant top and jeans) for less than 25 bucks:)

I'm not going out today for the tax free weekend. It's not worth fighting the crowds. If I were going out, I would have went yesterday or early, early this morning.

From Texas here, too. It would be nice if school supplies and backpacks were included in tax free weekend! :)

Are they not there? That is the main purpose here. You should see the back to school isles. They are almost empty!!!!

No tax + the great sale prices = gone

Computers are tax free here this weekend, but I'm wondering about computer parts. Like CD burners. Mine isn't working correclty anymore and I'd like to get a new one. I just might if there are no taxes on it.

I can't imagine NOT paying taxes on things like clothes. Here in CA we get no breaks at all and of course our wonderful (soon to be kicked out of office) governor has us in a horrible defecit. Oh well, happy shopping to those of you who save the tax burden this weekend:cool:
