Hello!
My name is Tavie (rhymes with gravy) and I found this board while searching for experiences from Disney fans who are visiting the parks for the first time after the death of a loved one. I found that thread and posted in it, but I thought I should observe proper netiquette* and make a real delurk.
So, I'm Tavie (short for Octavia) - Brooklynite, twin, lifelong New Yorker and Disney fan. My parents started taking us when we were 3, and we've visited almost every year since then, often twice in a year. (Sometimes we do Disneyland and have done Tokyo and EuroDisney, but the vast majority of years it's WDW.) We've been DVC members since 1992, and consider Old Key West and the parks like a "second home". Yes, I'm one of those.
Epcot is my favorite place in the entire world, and no matter how many times I visit WDW, I still get that excited feeling in the pit of my stomach like I did when I was little.
I haven't joined an old-fashioned forum in awhile, but I've been a member of several internet communities and families over the past 20 years, and I'm happy to say that my first-ever online community was a Disney board - the WDW forums on the old Prodigy BB, back in 1993. I was the "kid sister" over there and although I've lost touch with the members in the ensuing years, I remember them fondly. We exchanged cards, letters, photos and many, many emails over the years, and even started a tradition of touching Cinderella's Slipper to remember those who couldn't be there with us. I'm surprised and pleased to notice that the tradition seems to have been taken up by many other Disney fans over the years. I wonder if my "auntie" Bev, with whom I created the tradition, is still out there, and still visiting WDW.
I'm a big fan of Disney animation, too. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a Disney animator. That dream was put away for practical considerations (chief of which - lack of talent!) but I'm still very much an aficionado of the medium.
My favorite Disney film is Pete's Dragon, and for about a year I devoted my tumblr blog to obscure Disney characters ("Obscure Disney Character of the Day") - I can't link yet, too young, but I'll post the link after I've been around for awhile, if anyone's interested!
