I just got my 4th tattoo. ( A tribute to my dh) and I glanced over the directions they gave me. It says to put unscented Lubriderm on it after 3 days for the next two weeks. I have never heard of this! Has anyone else ever seen this in instructions? What's it suppose to do for your tat?

Thanks

No advice (as you know) but how'd it go?

It went well, the artist had a different vision of what to do with it than I did, and I liked what he wanted to do better. I'm really, really happy with it. Now if I could figure out how to take a picture of myself, I would post a picture!!

With both of my tats I was instructed to use TatWax for 7-10 days. By then the scabbing should be just about done. Then I have used unscented Lubriderm to keep them fresh and bright. Post a photo when you can!

Cool, can't wait to see it! :thumbsup2

If you can't find the unscented Lubriderm you can use the no fragranced Aveeno lotion-- that was the one that was recommended to dh and I. They want you to use a lotion to keep your skin moisterized, but I think the fragranced lotions mess with the ink color of the tatoo.

I have never heard of tatwax. Is it like an antibacterial ointment? I've all ways gotten the little tube of A&D ointment and told to use that for 7 -10 days. These instructions says use the A& D ointment twice a day for three days and then the Lubriderm.

You put lotion on it so the scab doesn't get dry and flake off or get torn off before it needs to. You don't want the scab to get torn off because it will strip the ink with it.

They used to reccomend Neosporin or something like that, but theyve changed to an unscented lotion.

The ones Ive done the Lotion on, have healed just as well as the others.

ALso - the poster who suggested Aveeno, is a smart cookie. Aveeno has that anti-itch oatmeal in it. A huge PLUS when it comes to after care for tattoo's - Im sure you know that.

Handy anti-itch tip: When it gets super itchy, slap it!!! Give it a good slap....stops the itch. :thumbsup2

My artist was pretty adamant about not using Neosporin or A&D. TatWax and TattooGoo are herbal salves. Check out www.camtattoo.com/Tattoo_Aftercare.html and it will explain the ingredients. It comes in a 1 oz. tin. Kinda like Vaseline, but not greasy. Be sure to keep it moisturized until the scabbing is done. If the scabs come off too early it pulls some ink with it!

EG...when you can get a picture, I would love to see it!

I'm thinking of getting my first tat. I can't decide for sure what to get...it has to have meaning for me. It's going on my lower back.

DH used the creamy white blistex during healing. and then he puts sheabutter or unsented body oil from neutragena to make the color "pop" after it heals.

With my first one, they said Neosporin. With the second one(last week and same artist)... they screamed NO neosporin but triple antibotic cream(um, same stuff?). Never heard of the other suggestions but like the Aveeno idea. I was looking at it last night and the scabs are starting to fall off and it's deep into the 'ugly' stage! Will try that for moisturizing.

And please post a pic, would love to see it!! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and reasons. I'm liking the Aveeno idea myself.

Oh and no slapping it, it's on my chest!! :scared: Although I would do that with the ones on my arms.

I used Vaseline for the first few days on both my tats and then followed with the unscented Aveeno. My colors are pretty vivid and they really didn't scab much. Not sure if it is just my body and how it healed but I will continue to do it that way.

Would love to see pics --since this is my first post on the Community Board I think it's time to go check out other posts and see what I can find ;)

My daughter just got another tatoo, she uses Bacitracin (sp?) or A&D ointmint, plus washes it a few times a day with hot water.
