My DBIL is undergoing treatment for cancer, and is limited to sucking on sugar free hard candy. Anyone know of a sugar free hard candy that actually tastes good that we could get for him?
I don't have any suggestions, but watch out for sorbitol and malitol. They have a laxative effect. I learned the hard way after my mother had gastric bypass and bought a bunch of sugar-free gum drops. I nearly ended up in the hospital.
Life savers are good especially the creamy twist ones (can't think of the name). So are Nips which are more like hard carmels but really good. I've found that hard candies fare much better when trying to make them sugar free. My best advice though is to stick with a known brand rather than a brand you don't recognize. Their reputation is on the line. Try the life savers.
I'm on Southbeach and we have found that Jolly Rancher's Sugar Free hard candies taste great!!!!! The lifesavers are good as well. In our grocery store it is in the candy aisle but can be a little tricky to find since there aren't many to choose from. My nephew is also battling cancer and he loves the jolly ranchers!!
