Tastings

I was very disappointed with the round of tastings available on my Nov 30th cruise. For some reason, most of them are for 10:30 pm, to include one on pirate night at that time. Does anyone else think that's weird that they would offer an alcohol tasting class when the fireworks are scheduled to go off?

Are the tastings that late for every night??

I booked our early Sept Fantasy sailing just 112 days in advance so I was in my booking window right then (platinum), immediately paid in full so I could book all the stuff I wanted including tastings. Over the first few days after booking I booked several tastings for our 7 night cruise, and only 1 was that late, a Bourbon tasting for DH.

I would keep checking, and if nothing else shows up, make a beeline to where they are booking tastings upon boarding. I assume they still do that.

I am also disappointed.

I really wanted to do Mixology but it was a choice of at the same time as when we were offered the Frozen Gathering and Princess Gathering on Sunday (which takes priority) or at 4 pm on another night. Since I did not want to go to dinner sloshed, I looked at the tastings. They too were only offered at 4 pm.

I did book the Mixology at 4 pm but am still undecided about it.

I just did a Mixology at 4:30 with a 5:45 dinner seating. I did just fine, but my wife was wobbly. She was fine, though once she got through dinner.

Hmm. Well, you could definitely get a substantive snack before your tasting, or a late big lunch. And of course, you COULD just TASTE each drink as opposed to drinking all of each one. :rotfl2:

It always seems to me like the mixed drinks, wine, and champagne tastings are day time or early evening, but the liquors (whiskey, bourbon, cognac, whatever else I'm forgetting) are late. Maybe you are just seeing the latter, OP? I think they're supposed to be digestif sorts of tastings, post dinner/show. Just like you'd order those things at the end of your meal. It is a little weird that it would coincide with fireworks, but not everyone cares about those, I guess.

You don't have to drink all of them right then and there, though. I brought an untouched drink to lunch and gave it to my husband after chocolate/liquor tasting. I left cognac tasting with one of mine. My mom left mojitos with 2 of hers, took her time sipping one and gave the other to my dad, and I left with one of mine. They really don't care if you take it to go, so don't feel the need to rush through the drinks.

My husband loves the beer tasting. Been doing it every cruise. But this time it was only offered on our castaway cay day! Disappointed that it’s a 7 night cruise and they could only fit it in on that day? We will check once on board to see if they added any other days. It was never like that before.

Which tasting are you interested in? Cognac, Bourbon and Whiskey are predominantly at 10:30 PM...the others are offered at various times during the day in the afternoon.
My husband always does the Cognac, Bourbon and Whiskey and I don't recall them being offered on Pirate night at all. Which itinerary are you on? Eastern or Western?

3 out of 5 are late night. The one I was interested in was at 2pm on Castaway day. But I have a cabana and want to make the most of it so I probably won’t do it. Oh well.

Which tasting is it on Castaway Cay day? The Mojito tasting is on the island...otherwise, I would definitely NOT miss any time in my cabana for a tasting. :)

I wouldn't leave a cabana for a tasting of any kind either! Enjoy your CC Cabana day!:cutie:

From what I understand, the ones offered ahead of time are only a small portion of those that will be offered. Unless that has changed since the last reports I saw.

I was under that impression as well, though I cannot recall where I saw that....

I looked into the tasting for our cruise last year and just checkedout the offerings for our cruise this October. I just can not imagine doing a tasting at 2pm. I would love them to be offered pre late dining, Say 6-6:30p. But I know they never will happen.

Cocktails before dinner would be perfect.

And 10:30p seems okay, but I saw just the whiskey at that time. I would be interested in the Mixology, Mojitio and I think I have seen Tequila. I can dream.

I'm curious why 2:00 seems like a bad time. It seems like it would allow for good pool time and lunch together but still had plenty of time to get ready for evening activities.

I would like to have tastings around 2-4 in the afternoon, just between lunch and dinner. Might have to give up napkin folding (darn).
We've done the Cognac and whiskey tastings at 10:30 at night. Very informative and relaxing.

I have only done tastings at either 12:15 or 2:00 pm, including wine, champagne, mixology, beer, chocolate and liquor, and martini tastings, most multiple times. As an early riser, I cannot manage a 10:30 pm tasting, so I’ve never tried the whiskey or cognac tastings, although I’d like to do both. Just not at the time of night. I much prefer the 2 pm schedule, since I can have lunch before and some time to recover after if need be.
