THANKS TO CHUCK FOR REMINDING ME IN ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT THIS POLICY AT TARGET:
IF THERE ARE ANY TARGET EMPLOYEES OUT THERE, PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ABOUT THIS.

WE HAVE NOT BOUGHT ELECTRONICS AT TARGET SINCE JANUARY SO THIS MAY BE OLD NEWS, BUT THOUGHT I'D POST ANYWAY....

15% RE-STOCKING FEE !

SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF INTEREST ABOUT ELECTRONICS ETC. THIS X-MAS, AND IN OUR CASE A PORTABLE DVD PRICED AT 265 WILL YEILD ABOUT $40 IN RE-STOCK FEE IF WE OPEN IT.

WHAT REALLY IRKS ME IS THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO SEE PICTURE QUALITY, SOUND , CABLE HOOK-UPS ETC. THE UN-HOOKED SYSTEMS ARE BOLTED TO THE SHELF IN A GLASS CABINET. EMPLOYEE SAID HE CANNOT UN-HOOK IT FOR US TO SEE, OR PLUG IT IN FOR DEMO. MANAGER SAID THE SAME. SO HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE THING IS DECENT OR NOT?

IF YOU BREAK/ OPEN THE PLASTIC CASING , NOT EVEN THE BOX, YOU WILL BE CHARGED THE FEE.
IF THE PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN IT AND WAIVE THE FEE. BIT ONLY IF PROVEN DEFECTIVE, NOT BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT CARE FOR PICTURE QUALITY ETC.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE ARE GRAEFUL WE HAVE NOT OPENED THE ITEM.
I DON'T THINK I'LL BE SHOPPING AT TARGET MUCH ANYMORE, BETWEEN THIS AND THEIR NO-MATCH PRICING POLICY. TOO BAD.

PAM

I have to admit, I didn't know about this. I will make sure anything that is electronic will NOT be opened unless we 100% intend to keep it.

If it is broken, they don't charge you...but they get several people ( at least here ) that open the Camcorder or camera, use it on vacation, or watch a DVD, then take it back for the $...
If it is broken, they do a "exchange.."item for item"

I will say that a lot of the larger electronics stores, I know Best Buy and Circuit City do have the same policy. Once something is opened, they charge a 15% restocking fee if opened and not damaged. They are doing it to discourage exactly what the previous poster said, using the item and the returning it. Basically it does stink if the item isn't what you wanted, but it does protect the consumer from getting used merchandise.

I don't care for a few of Target's policies myself but this one I understand. There seem to be people out there that think it's OK to "borrow" things from stores and then get all of their money back. I'm afraid that we're all paying for these people.

I understand protecting the consumer, but at least have the item available to see! That is just as unfair to me as getting a used item.

Hey FINFAN....wanna cry?? I know Dan....he lives next door to my best friend and she is friends with Claire!

I have never had a problem with Target and with a restocking fee as well. I absoluetely love Target!

Many many stores carry a restocking fee and is very obvious on receipt.

The rule is simple.

Don't buy it if you can't try it first.

If you are discreet, you might use self help in the store to connect something up yourself and try it out right there.

Or just go someplace else to shop and buy.

Video hints:
http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/video.htm

It is not a good idea to buy a TV with just one yellow video input jack, one S-video jack, and just one selection for "video" or "a/v" on the remote. With such a TV you cannot connect both the DVD player and the VCR to the S-video and regular video jacks respectively at the same time, you MUST unplug one before you can use the other (most makes and models).

I know Circuit City used to have that policy but they did away with it. I have a friend who worked there who said that people would come in and buy a big screen for the Superbowl and return it.

How ridiculous can some people be?

I hate targets policy. We purchased DS a children's alarm clock radio about 10 years ago. We took it home and tried it out. I can't remember why we didn't like it. I think it was too hard for him to work. We took it back the same day it was purchased. I really don't think we were given a receipt because the radio didn't leave the bag until we got home, and neither of us remembered having it handed to us. When we returned it they claimed it had been on sale in the last 30 days so we had to accept the sale price, plus pay the restocking fee. I boycotted them for several years.

I have never ever had a problem with Target. I have gone without a receipt, and they have gladly looked up purchase via a credit card.... they have walked carts of stuff to my car and actually loaded my car as well.

Even if I return something I never have a problem. (But then again, I am a compulsive receipt keeper, and I file them away immediately!)

DisneyDmbNut. HOW COOL!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I have the utmost respect for Dan and his family. Their work w/Autism and general charity work is commendable. If you ever get the chance, tell him the Laube's and Millers in Chicago wish them well and we'll see Dan in Canton for the Hall of Fame induction! WOW!!! That is just SO COOL!!!!! I bet I won't be able to think of anything else today:teeth: can I live vicariously through you? Are you gonna have a DISMEET at your best friends house? I'm there!:hyper: :p :wave2:

YEP! We did alot of searching because the family went in on a computer for my brother and his family for Christmas.
No restocking fee, and the time to do an exchange or if you have a problem to do an exchange is longer.

WalMart and some of the other stores were 15 DAYS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, no exceptions, for electronics!!!

Buying eletronics is a tricky business these days.
