So I just stopped in Target and asked about the discount on gift cards when purchased with the Red cc or debit card. I was told there is never a discount on gift cards :confused3 Is there a special way to do it? I was hoping to combine my prescription 5% discount with the Red card 5% discount but.....

Thanks!

No discount with persription 5% anymore only red card 5%. The 5% comes off as soon as u enter your red card

Sadly, if you ask a cashier, or even one of the managers, at some Target stores, you'll get this answer. "Gift cards" typically do not qualify for the 5% discount. BUT, Disney Gift Cards are classified as "entertainment cards" in the Target system. And, thus, can have the discount applied.

The 5% discount with the Red Card is automatically applied at check out (it's in the computer system), and many cashiers are not aware of it.

You can no longer stack the 5% Red Card discount with the 5% Pharmacy Rewards discount. They stopped that about 6 months ago, or so.

I was told there is never a discount on gift cards.

That would apply to Target Gift Cards only.

For the purpose of sales, Disney Gift Cards (and others) are considered merchandise so the REDcard 5% discount applies.

Technically, the Disney cards are "entertainment" cards, not "gift" cards. Silly distinction but they do not give any percentage off on "gift" cards but do not have the same restriction on "entertainment" cards. Even though their website says they are gift cards, they are categorized in their register system otherwise. Whatever, works out well for us!

I also buy the starbucks giftcards there and get 5% off with the red card

The cashier at my local Target told me the same thing, but it is NOT true. Just ring them up and you will instantly see the 5% discount. I recently paid for my entire cruise (minus the deposit) this way. Also, if you make a payment right at customer service immediately after your purchase, they will credit your account faster (I needed to make three separate transactions as my red card limit would not cover cost of cruise).

Darn, I was hoping to do the double discount dance!

Awesome! Thank you!

Thanks guys, that helped make it clear! This is why the Disboards are great :thumbsup2

Can you buy a Disney gift card with a target gift card? Not a target red card, but an actual gift card?
Just wondering if anyone has ever done this.

I have done this and it was not an issue.

I was thinking about that too. I Shopkick with my phone all the time and have earned about $350 in gift cards over the last 18 months. Typically I go for Sephora but will do Target now!

You can buy a Disney GC with a Target GC but I read on these boards two months ago that you won't get the 5% off unless you pay with the Red Card? According to posters, it only works online if you have your Red Card set as a default but then pay with the Target GC. The problem is then that you are limited to how many cards you can buy at a time so it would take a long time to collect all the cards you need. Meanwhile if any of then are shipped without being activated, you are screwed. You won't have any record that you punchanged that particular card (vs swiped it from the store) so it will be an uphill battle to get it corrected. For those reasons, I just went to the store and forgot about purchasing Target cards at a discount online to then buy the Disney GCs.

FYI - On BF target will have Target GCs at 10% off up to $300. Supposedly one deal per household and the GCs not redeemable until Saturday morning. Not sure how they are going to stop these restrictions.

In the mean time, for those that want a little bit more (about 7%), this is what I do:

* Purchase a WalMart GC using my Disney Visa Rewards Premier - Local WM are considered grocery and hence I get 2% rewards
* Walk across the street to Sams Club
* Purchase Disney GCs at about 5% off paying with the WM GCs.

I did about $4K of my upcoming cruise this way.
