Target red card help

Ok, so I just received my Red Card in the mail today. I have a Target giftcard from Raise that I was trying to use to purchase a new Target giftcard. When does the 5% saving show in the cart? Sorry, I am new to the Red Card and after reading everyones posts on here, I thought I knew what I was doing. I guess not TIA!

You have to use the red card to make the purchase to get the 5% savings. So if you used the gift card you will not get a savings.

I tried doing that, but the discount didn't show up prior to purchase. Do you get the 5% discount right away, or is it like a credit card rewards program where your 5% adds up?

Oh and you can't get %5 on a Target gift card purchase

Here is the fine print

5% discount does not apply to the following:
•Prescriptions, clinic services at Target and Target Optical™ eye exams
•Target gift cards and prepaid cards
•Previous purchases
•Target credit account payments, Target Debit Card cash back and cash advances on the Target MasterCard
•Gift wrap and shipping and handling charges on Target.com purchases
•Wireless protection program purchases and deposits required by mobile carrier
•Where otherwise prohibited by law

The discount shows up in your cart after you select the payment. But, as above, you don't get a discount on Target gift cards.

Sorry to hijack... but instead of starting new thread. I have seen different answers all over the boards. I have Target gift cards that I will buy Disney cards with. My red card is on it's way. Does the 5% work with this and if so store/online or both? What are the hoops?

Yes. Both. No hoops

Cashiers will sometimes tell you that it won't work but the 5% comes off automatically.
