Target Gift Card Daily Limit?

Has anyone else run into a daily limit issue when purchasing Disney gift cards at Target? We have bought $4k ish so far to pay off our Disney package with no problems (buying up to $1k at a time). Now I am getting some to save for Savi's and food for our trip. I tried buying $500 and my red card was declined. The cashier told me they had a limit of $300. She wasn't sure if that limit was per transaction or per day. I did one transaction to buy the first $300 with no problem but when I tried a second transaction to buy the remaining $200 it was declined again so we decided it must be a daily limit. Anyone know if this is a new thing Target started? Or maybe it is some kind of flag on my card because I have bought so many in the last few weeks?

When I was still buying the physical GC I only encountered a limit once of $3,000. I haven't tried that large a transaction since and have now moved to digital only.

I didn't realize you could get them digitally using the red card.

The above happened to me when buying digitally. I have the target debit. I’ve heard it happening to other people too on these boards. We have all called and received different explanations from Target reps.

Regardless it seems to “come back alive” after the debit charges have cleared and a some days beyond that have elapsed. It’s almost like they throttle it.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. A sort of anti scamming measure or something. I was just surprised because I hadn't had any problems before.

Call Target and find out why they are limiting your purchases. I’ve not ever had a limit.

I usually buy $500-$1,000 per day every other day when I am loading up on cards for big trips. This usually allows the billing to transfer the purchase from pending to billed on the my target card app.

Be sure to register your cards on the disney card website to combine the cards. So much easier keeping up with 5x $1000 cards than 50x $100 cards.

Oh, yes, I have definitely been combining them! Thank you!

Hi! I have a couple of questions about Disney gift cards from Target. On the Target website, all the cards say "non-reloadable" in the description. Would this mean that any other cards balances cannot be combined onto this card, or just that you can't go back to Target with this card and put more $ onto it there?
Also, if a card is purchased for a specific amount (eg a $100 card) will it still be ok to use as a master card for balances? eg. buy 10 $100 cards and pick one of them to hold the entire $1000.
thanks!

They are combinable using the Disney site (disneygiftcard.com). You can have up to $1,000 on one card and you should delete everything from the site after combining it. I suggest making some kind of mark on your "master" card to remind you which one it is. I personally am holding onto all of my cards until after my trip just to be safe but I will only bring the loaded ones with me.

On our Target RedCard cc it limits me to 3 $500 Disney e-GC, plus a few $100 e-GC. I usually cap it at $1800 in a single purchase. If I use my Target RedCard debit card then I'm limited by my daily/weekly allotment. I no longer buy physical cards in store as the last time that two times that I did the cashiers never fully activated almost $2k in DGC. They were $25 ones (the store didn't have anything larger), and was a complete headache to sort out for a refund.

I didn't know there was a daily/weekly allotment. What is it?

I am running into the same problem as mentioned above, and I never had it happen before when buying large amounts of gift cards online using the debit card. I've talked with 4 or 5 different RedCard and target. com agents, and they all gave me different answers, but all basically saying that they didn't know why the card was being declined. None would say that there are any limitations as to how much I can buy in a given time--but obviously something is going on. Thanks for any insights y'all have!

When I first got my Target Debit (not credit) Card there was a daily transaction limit in the range of $300-500. I forget which, but it was low. It has increased, but what we learned is that it takes a few days for each purchase to clear their system, especially if a transaction was made Fri-Sun. So if my limit was say $500 and I make a $400 transaction on Friday then I'm limited to under $100 until the transactions move from pending to complete. It's very frustrating. Sometimes things clear same day, others it takes longer. More often we use DH Target Credit Card as it has a much higher limit.

I usually stick with online purchases now for e-DGC as I will combine them online anyways. I just reuse a physical card as I have a stack from when we use to buy in store.

Thank you for the information! It definitely seems that that is what is happening to me, but I cannot figure out what my limit is (because I never had a problem buying large amounts until two weeks ago, and since then I can't figure out the pattern of what exactly is making it lock up and for how long). And no agent on the phone or online will tell me what my limit is (most of the agents said that there isn't a limit). It's strange. The limit seems to maybe be fluctuating, and as you said, I think sometimes the charges clear the same day and others take more time. Thanks for the tip on Fri-Sun purchases taking longer.

i just bought $1900 on Target website of gift cards, but it only allowed me to purchase 3x$500 cards,I wanted to buy 4. so I had to then buy 2x$200 cards ( I originally wanted $2000) to get the amount I needed. That was the only limit I came across.....only to be stopped up on the WDW site when I found you can only use 1 gift card per purchase. I did figure out to combine them and ended up doing several transactions but damn what a pain.

If you are using a Target debit card, check to see if your bank has a daily limit for purchases. You should be able to get your bank to raise your daily limit.
