Target and the Salvation Army, The great irony!

So the point of your thread is that you're trying to twist the story in saying that Target is anti-religious or anti-charity because it doesn't allow any solicitation in front of it's store.

Because if you weren't trying to twist the story that way, the OP would have read that Target doesn't allow any solicitation in front of their buildings, including the Salvation Army, and then there would be no irony. Instead you chose to say that they don't want the SA there and cover it by not allowing any solicitation. Where is your evidence to back up your claim that Target does not allow solicitation from anyone just so they can prevent the SA? There is no irony unless they were specifically against the SA, so your post makes no sense.

Beth, it really isn't complicated. The national chain, Target has a policy of no solicitation outside of their retail locations. This includes the Salvation Army. In this particular case, the S/A has been located there. That's all. I can appreciate the irony of the situation. It isn't a mountain out of a mole hill, its merely an observation.
But it's not their property so who gives a flying fig? It seems like you believe the SA is trying to stick to Target with this and I don't see that as the case. I will agree that it really isn't a mountain out of mole hill, so why is it a thread? :confused3

Dawn, I appreciate the irony.

Personally, I think it's a shame they don't allow them because they are a charity that really does a lot of good. Sure they can not allow them and that is their right, but I wish they would. I've never minded the bellringers one bit, nor have I encountered a rude one. I think it's all part of the season. Great way to get rid of spare change too.

I never implied that the Salvation Army was trying to "stick it to Target", Given the fact that Target was the recipient of a lot of national attention last Christmas because of their stand on the Salvation Army in particular, I found this situation ironic. Did anyone force you to respond to this thread or did you just want to start an arguement?

If you are considering "mind reading" as a career, some advice; Don't Give Up Your Day Job". If I were trying to "twist the story" to portray Target negatively, I probably wouldn't have been shopping at Target today.

Thats one of the things that I dislike about WalMart - all the people taking donations/selling stuff for charity outside their doors. My 1 year old DS gets up early so we usually go to WalMart at 7 a.m. on the weekends - we miss the crowds and the charities. I LIKE that Target doesnt have any charities outside their stores for me to avoid.

The Salvation Army is an organization that gives everyone a hand up. Most of the money donated goes to the good works that they do. The kettles have been part of Christmas for me since I was a child. I was happy to see them there and got a chuckle out of the fact that it was in front of Target. There are several other mall entrances BTW and that is not an entrance that I typically use because the parking lot there is too congested.

Um, Target and the Salvation Army are partnering on the "Wish List" - see this link: CLICKY

I don't find that surprising. Target, Walmart, and all of the major chains are big supporters of charities.

There are a zillion different kettles in your area, I am sure.

Target can do what it wants.

I do not donate to charities just because they hang outside the doors of a store.

I have an online friend that is a minister in the SA..I've always donated to them.Ironically I always donated to the bell ringer in front of the Target in Oceanside CA.. I didn't know that this was disallowed

Actually there are kettles outside of all of the major retail businesses that I frequent. I agree, Target can do what it wants...almost. ;) I do not donate to charities just because they hang outside the doors of the store, I donate because I think that the S/A is a worthwhile charity.

I fail to see the humor or the irony in this. I don't understand the "draw" you're trying to get with this thread. If the SA is outside the Target door, then they are on the mall property. I doubt Target has any problem with this.

You must have missed the news story last year. It was rather huge and many people boycotted Target due to this. They do contribute to charities on their own, just did not want bellringers outside, if I remember correctly. I think I read that Target won't acknowledge the word "Christmas" either and sticks to "holidays". Their sales have taken a fall I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I DO get the irony. All this aside, I do love shopping in Target. :p

Don't enjoy that "irony" too much. You may be accused of "dissing" Target. ;)

I don't mind,I'm not a big fan of Target. It's way too crowded most of the time.

That brings the total to three I believe. ;)

And with that, I am heading back to Target. I have to find a can of clean tennis balls to wash my down jacket. :rotfl2:
