You will have to excuse this slightly weird question...

Is it okay to ask for tap water as a drink with a meal in France?
I don't really like fizzy drinks that much and even if I did I feel that €5 (or thereabouts) is a lot to pay for a drink.
In the UK it's not an issue but what is the etiquette in DLP in both table and buffet service restaurants?
I know this sounds like I'm being a cheapskate, but I suppose I am! I usually ask for black currant squash here :rotfl

Perfectly okay, we always do whether or not we are ordering drinks as well. In fact it is law in France that a restaurant has to give you tap water if you ask for it so no problem at all.

Bon Appetit! :goodvibes

So will it be ok to pay for a meal without drinks and ask for just plain tap water?

Greatttt!!!
My mum is thinking about hiding a couple of bottles of chianti wine in Her luggage lol

I had to look up black currant squash because I had never heard of it before. It sounds interesting. Is this something that's common in the UK, and would you order it at a restaurant? We will be in London after our DLP visit, and I'd like to try it.

You may know it as cordial or dilute-able juice?
You can buy it in supermarkets and local shops in a variety of flavours - I love Robinson's orange barley :thumbsup2

It's not something you find at many restaurants, apart from sometimes on childrens' menus, but you'll be able to find it in shops and supermarket. The most well known brand is Ribena and you buy it in little ready to drink cartons or bigger bottles that you need to dilute with water.

Going back to the original question...I asked for tap water in Plaza Gardens last week and they happily provided me with some. They even brought it in a nice carafe (sp?) with a glass to pour it into.
