This might not be the right place to post this, but how do people feel about the tap water quality for human and pet consumption? I may be boarding my dog and I noticed that there is an option to pay $5 per day for bottled water. Is the tap water likely to make me or my dog sick?

I don't think it will make you sick but you may find the taste strange. There is a noticeable difference in the taste from the tap water I get here in Baltimore.

First ask the kennel if the regular water is filtered or not. If so, it shouldn't be an issue since filtered water in the parks is no problem. But if it's not filtered, I might ask my vet before leaving home. The regular water can be super sulphuric depending on where you are on property. The room we had at the GF was the worst!

DW doesn't care much for the taste so we purchase bottle water for our room --I'm ok with it

you won't get sick

I have lived in Central Florida my entire life and have been drinking the water with no problems. It is safe to drink.

That being said, it comes from our aquifer and there is a distinct minerally flavor that if you are not used to can be unpleasant. Definately not as nice as water that has melted from ice off the mountains. But it is completely safe and goes through water purification systems.

I don't have a problem with the water. I have gotten a lot of water from WDW water fountains. I realize some don't like the taste but I don't believe it is unsafe.

I wouldn't even pay for bottled water for myself, much less for a dog. Dogs drink out of toilets.

Any change in mineral content in water can result in changes to the digestive system. Of course it is safe to drink but if your pet has a sensitive tummy you might want the bottled water.

It smells weird, but it tastes okay. Never made me sick.

I'm quite sure that not all Floridians are giving their pets bottled water. :rotfl: Haven't heard about massive pet death in Florida yet.

The tap water was fine for me, but I guess I rarely have a problem with the taste of tap water. :confused3

I wouldn't worry about the tap water being harmful in any way, however, sometimes a dog might not want to drink water that has an unfamiliar taste. Not the case with all dogs in every circumstance, but always possible.

Well, for whatever the reason, the tap water in florida ALWAYS gets me sick.
Yet in Mexico, I was fine :confused3
So DH & I stick with bottled, even at dinner-time!

Just try to answer the question yourself, if phrased a different way. If WDW, a place the size of the city of San Francisco, with 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, and 23 resorts, has provided its guests with water that will make them or their dog sick, wouldn't we have heard about that by now?

MK opened in 1971, Epcot in 1982, DHS in 1989 and AK in 1998. Annual visitors to WDW in 2007 were estimated to be:
__Magic Kingdom, 17 million visits (No. 1 worldwide)
__Epcot, 10.9 million visits (No. 6 worldwide)
__Disney's Hollywood Studios, 9.51 million visits (No. 7 worldwide)
__Disney's Animal Kingdom, 9.49 million visits (No. 8 worldwide)

As other have said maybe. Well not sick like cholera but just maybe a little ill.

It's safe but yes it does have an odd taste and smell that a lot of people can't stand.

I'm thinking they offer bottled at the kennel for the owners that since they can't stand the water also think that their dog may also have issues.

You make it sound like Orlando is an undeveloped country or something.

If you're not used to it, it might make you a little queasy. When we used to come here on vacation, we couldn't stand the water, it smelled and tasted gross. Now that I live here, I'm used to it. Something to think about though. I think your dog would probably be fine with the water.

We had no problem with the tap water there. We filled our Cameback with it daily.

The tap water quality at WDW is top notch. Our dogs have never gotten sick while boarding at WDW.

I agree, no bottled water for me or the dogs.

Unbelievable!

Self explanatory.

Tap water in America is always at least as safe to drink as bottled. There are far more safety requirements for tap water than bottled. There are also more arms of enforcing those requirements for tap than bottled. Americas obsession with bottled water is purely mental, there is no basis in safety. But feel free to waste money and resources on it if you desire.

Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) water comes from a safe, reliable, and protected underground source. The Upper Floridan Aquifer is one of the largest underground reservoirs of freshwater in the country. The aquifer is primarily fed by rainwater that is filtered through hundreds of feet of sand, clay and rock, undergoing a natural cleansing process. The water is of consistently high quality; therefore, no treatment other than chlorination is required. RCID’s water system processed an average of 16.52 million gallons of water per day (MGD) for public use in 2010.

If anyone bothers to look at the water quality test results for WDW/RCID, they will find that the water quality standards exceed those of many cities throughout the United States.

However, for those who want to believe that WDW water is not as good as other countries, such as Mexico, buy bottled water.
