I have heard so many people say that they love this CS. I am tempted to try it on our trip in Sept, just because of the good reviews. However, I read the menu on Allears and I am not familiar with any of this food!
Ex: Shawarma Platters - served with side of hummus, tabbouleh and Tangierine CousCous salad with fresh Moroccan bread. I don't know what any of this is! Help!

Do you have Gyros where you live? This is basically what the Shawma Wraps are. Hummus is a dip/spread made from chix peas and garlic, yummy! Cous Cous is a grain, very small pearl size pasta.
If you are daring, try it...Tangerine Cafe has great food!

this really is one of the best CS places in all of Disney...

Not sure I can explain the whole menu but the stuff you listed above...

Shawarma platter comes with whatever meat you pick (chicken or lamb)...
Hummus is a puree of chick pea's, olive oil, and some spices with a little lemon juice.
Tabbouleh is a salad of sorts with cilantro and tomato with a little lemon juice
CousCous is kind of like rice but much smaller grains....

I would say atleast stop by and take a look and ask the people there for a better indepth description.. but man is it good :thumbsup2

The Tangierine Cafe is my FAVORITE CS in all of WDW!!!!!(Yorkshire Fish&Chips comes in at #2!) The food is so fresh and delicious, and not at all overbearing with spices like you would expect food from that region to be. you get a lot of food too! You really must try it once. The tabboulah is a parsley salad mixed with lemon juice...SOOOOOOOOOO good!

I'm not a huge fan of this type of cuisine. I really am not keen on very many of the sides (chick peas - bleurgh, DH thinks hummus is heavenly!) However I will say that the meat is usually very, very tasty. Not sure what it is marinated in but it is very good.

Doesn't Tangerine Cafe have display plates made up for each of the dishes so you can see what the meal looks like? You know, like they do at Salad Works, etc.

Or am I dreaming that?

The platters are HUGE! It is a ton of food - and all very tasty.

Enjoy!

You are not dreaming, they have sample plates on display in their case!
BEST CS in WDW!!!!!

To clarify: Couscous is not a grain, it is very tiny pasta. Sometimes it's pearl-sized (Israeli couscous), but the stuff at Tangierine is far smaller. It's light and fluffy like rice, but far smaller. Tabbouleh is a salad with bulgur (wheat grains), parsley, and often tomato, scallions, and herbs with lemon juice. Hummus is chickpeas/garbanzo beans with olive oil, tahini (sesame seed paste), lemon juice, and garlic, often with some herbs and/or spices.

But yes, shawarma is very much like gyros, but it can be made with different meats that are sliced off the skewer.

DH and I always have one of their chicken sandwiches for lunch. *Excellent*! :thumbsup2 There are quite a number of things on their menu that aren't "strange" and unknown to many. They have great desserts and coffee, too.

Oh goodness my mouth is waterng! This is DH's and my favorite CS in WS!

Thank you so much for the replies! Yes, we have plenty of Greek food places around so I am familiar with Gyros, at least. It does sound very interesting and I think I will try it on our trip. Not a huge chick pea fan, but I'm willing to try! ;) THANKS AGAIN!

You won't be sorry. It is one of my favorite places in Epcot, counter-service or table service.

Don't feel bad, I've eaten the Shwarma platter several times and I still am not sure what it is! I think now I've learned here that the green salad-type thing is Tabboleh(?) But I'm not sure. I did take a picture, though, so you can see what it looks like (just don't expect me to know what's what!)

Oh, yes, you HAVE to give the Tangierine Cafe a try. It is SOOOOO yummy! The shwarma platter was wonderful. I believe it had lamb and beef. I don't care for chick peas/garbanzo beans at all, but the hummus was really tasty. So was the taboulleh and the cous cous. Oh, and the baklava for dessert was wonderful too. Defininitely want to go there again.....too bad I can't right now.......:sad1:

IMHO I think hummus tastes like a fresh bean dip- love it!! If you aren't adventurous enought to get the platter with the three sides, get the wrap with fries. DD5 loved that they had chicken tenders and fries and we all loved the baklava

You must have middle eastern restaurants in Long Island. I know that there are plenty in Manhattan and beyond. New York has EVERYTHING.

Try some hummus or couscous before you leave.

DH got this last time. It looks like the lamb sandwich, to the left, the scoop that looks like ice cream is the hummus, the green salad is taboulleh, to the right of that is the couscous. It's all wonderful!! Hope you enjoy!
