It's been a year and a half since I was there, so not super recent but not ages ago, either. My husband speaks Arabic (although it is a very different dialect) and even then, they did not understand the issue. They seemed to have no idea what gluten is. My husband asked for the pita bread on a separate plate (for my kids) and it was still put on the same plate. He explained in both English and Arabic. I wouldn't trust them to eliminate cross contamination. I like the food, it's very tasty, but I like that kind of food in general. If you skip the pita bread it's pretty much naturally wheat free since it's rice, meat, veggies, spices. Thankfully I do not have celiac so cross contamination or even a tiny bit of wheat is not going to completely ruin my vacation.
