Does anyone tan or get a fake tan before heading to Disney? I'm thinking about getting a fake tan before we go in March as I'm so pasty winter white that I think I'd scare people when I put on my shorts!

If we're going someplace warm (WDW or otherwise), then I usually go tan for about 2 weeks before we leave. Like you, my white legs are something to be scared of!!

I always go to the the tanning bed before vacation, whether it's July or December. I know what you mean about winter white legs!!!! AUGH!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

I was just thinking about this the other day!!! Since we are going in May this year instead of the fall, I was thinking about doing the tanning bed a few weeks before we leave!!! I hate my white legs in shorts!!!! :rotfl:

I always do the fake tan in a tube. I don't have time to go get a tan before leaving for a vacation. The "tan" keeps me from getting sun burned when we get to Orlando.

I hear Mystic Tan is really good and really easy. Much less risky than the real thing! :thumbsup2

I never thought about northerners tanning BEFORE coming to Florida! :rotfl: I don't know why, but it just sounds funny! I'm a native Floridan, been here all my life, and I bet I'm still paler than most of you! :lmao: Seriously though, the fake tan would be better for your skin. :sunny:

I would think in March the sun won't be TOO strong down in Florida...unless you burn very easily.

I have found, though, that a "real tan" as opposed to a fake (bed, lotion, or spray) last so much longer...just put on sunblock and you'll be fine.

and with that being said...I'm officialy an old fart worrying about my skin

I vote for no tan. A real tan damages your skin and raises your cancer risk. A fake tan perpetuates the myth that tanning is a good thing and makes you look "healthier." Stay pale, wear sun screen and cover up. Tanning is something to avoid, not something to strive for.

The first time we went to WDW (April), I had not given a tan a thought. Several people got on the plane in Kalispell, too, and I saw them get off the plane in Orlando. They were very tan, which is unusual up here and, when they went to get their luggage, they fit right in with everyone else walking around the airport. That trip, I got repeatedly sunburned (I am a redhead, pale, pale skin) and I was miserable. I was having to cover up everywhere we went. The CMs made fun of me at the water park because I was more covered than anyone there!

I tried that Banana Boat Self-Adjusting Tanning Lotion and it worked great on our next trip. I found I could wear lighter clothing 'cause I didn't burn nearly as much with the 'darker' skin. I don't care about the tan, I just don't want to burn and damage my skin. :sunny:

What brand do you use? I tried the fake tan a few years back when it was fairly new. What a disaster. I would have looked like an oompa loompa :clown: if I had put it on my entire body. Fortunately I tested it on only one leg. I think the palms of my hands were orange for about a week. :wave2: I would like to try again since I hear the have improved the formulas.

I go to the beds a few weeks before! If I am going to be wearing shorts or tanks!

I've been thinking about trying Mystic Tan. I really don't want to go to the tanning beds because of the risk of skin cancer and more wrinkles than I already have!
Has anyone tried Mystic Tan?

While I appreciate what you are saying, and yes its true, but everytime someone asks about tanning or using sprays etc., someone always has to tell them the dangers. Personally, I think most know the dangers, they still are just asking a question and don't need to be lectured. Not trying to cause any trouble, just stating MHO..... :sunny:

Well, if someone asked whether they should be slap themselves in the head, wouldn't you want to gently point out that it might not be the best idea... :confused3

Either that or we need to start every thread with a disclaimer: "Opinions wanted (otherwise why would I be posting on a public message board?) but only those I already agree with and want to hear..."

The only one I have tried is the Banana Boat Self-Adjusting lotion. I have heard there are other very, very good sprays and lotions but I have not tried them. I have very sensitive skin and I use the Banana Boat on my legs, arms, neck and face. And it washes off after just a couple of showers when you stop using it.

Is there a salon near you that does airbrush tanning?? If so try it out! I comes out awesome. It's even better than a mystic tan. They have trained people that actually spray it right on your body so there is less chance of streaking or missed spots. I did it before a trip I went on in January. It will fade in 5-7 days so bring a bottle of your favorite sunless tanner (estee lauder works pretty good) and wear plastic gloves to protect your hands from turning orange. That way you can touch up if needed.

I forgot to mention

I find that a fake tan will look a little less "oompa loompa" looking if you use a lighter color. Try to stay away from dark or intense kinds of self tanner.

Alot of people have had good luck with "Jergen's Natural Glow"
personally - it turned me orange and smelled like burnt crackers (so nasty - made me want to vomit at times.)

L'Oreal came out with a new one similar to the Jergen's one...part of the Sublime Tan line or something like that. Maybe look into that?

Do you regularly walk up to smokers and 'gently point out that it might not be the best idea...'?

I burn painfully if I spend minimal time out in the full sun unprotected. I find that if I tan for a month or so before my WDW visit the sun doesn't affect me so badly. I have a darker skin tone so I don't ever look pale, no matter what time of year it is. Sun screen works OK, but I'm always forgetting the little places (tops of ears & tops of feet if I'm wearing sandals) and I always wear a hat to protect my gradually balding head.
