Tampa St. Pete Airport

Hi- I was thinking of flying Alegiant down to Disney world. Got a little confused...I was thinking they flew into Tampa Airport, but now I'm realizing it's the smaller St Pete/Tampa airport-I know it's a smaller airport, how is the drive from there to Disney area? Is it longer than flying into Tampa International airport? Any thoughts appreciated!!

I would imagine that St Pete's airport is at least 20 mins longer. My son lives about a 15 min drive from TPA (east of the airport), and St Pete is about 15-20 mins from his home. He's right off the main road that runs between the two cities.
With that in mind, I would think it would be close to 2 hrs. It's 70 mins (without a lot of traffic) to Tampa. Add 30 mins to that.

St Pete's/Clearwater is a smaller regional airport (much like Sanford/Orlando).
It's on the other side (west) of Tampa Bay from the Tampa airport.
You will be out of the airport and on your way faster than if you were flying into TPA, but you have an extra 15-20 miles or so added to the commute to WDW.
Depending on the time of day and traffic congestion, you will be looking at 1.5- 2 hours to make the drive (but you will probably be out of the airport more quickly than you would be getting out of TPA so the extra driving time may be kind of a wash when you factor this in)

We are flying into PIE on Allegiant in June. We arrive at 10:30pm. We mapquested the drive to Disney and it looked to be around 1.5 hours.

I drove from my ds's place, in Tampa about 6 miles west of TPA, on Easter morning about 5 yrs ago. I left around 7ish. There was little traffic at that time of day. It took me about an hour, 10 mins..traveling at above the speed limit. I got to MK about 8:15ish. When I have made the drive at normal times, with normal traffic, it take me closer to 75 mins to get from Tampa to WDW. It will take an addtl 20-30 mins to get to St Pete from TPA area. I would figure on at least 1.5 hrs, and probably closer to 2 hrs...depending on day of the week and time of day. Tampa traffic is notoriously miserable...and I'm a Boston driver!!!
