Are you saying those things NEVER happen???
I'm sorry- but I think truck drivers have been talking "on the phone" while driving for years before any of the rest of us, it's called a CB radio.
Don't get all high and mighty on me about truck drivers- my mother and I were almost driven off the road by 3 of them when I was a kid- I have NEVER been so scared in my life. The 3 of them were obviously traveling together and NOBODY was going to get in between them. Trust me, I give them PLENTY of room.
Not nearly enough said by me- but it'll do.
ITA! I think a lot of us have more stories about BSTs. (Big Scary Trucks)
Go to your nearest truck stop with an open mind and honestly ask about all the little scary cars
This is seriously what you took away from all that I said ? This is your interpretation that I am high & mighty and you have to "educate" me about a CB radio......Sad very sad...go ahead all of you keep yakking away and take on a 80,000 lb truck..can't happen to you ...okay then
here go educate yourself

I don't doubt that there are a lot of scary little cars, but one just has to compare the weight times velocity, to see which vehicle carries the most lethal impact.

I don't yak away and I don't text.
Are you denying the use of CB radios by truck drivers? If just talking is distracting, I would think it would not matter if they were talking on their phone or their radio. Truck drivers are human- they have no super powers.
Did you not read my post? I do NOT "take on" a truck, I don't even take on a VW Bug if it's cutting me off.... I am not an aggressive driver or a careless driver. I have never been in any type of car accident as a driver (knock on wood).
Why anyone would "take on a truck" is beyond me, they are bigger and you will lose.
I don't need to be educated.

Texting just became illegal here ~ talking is not.
This may be shocking to some people, but I have no problems talking on my cell phone and still remaining a safe driver. If I'm in heavy traffic or construction zones, I choose not to talk on my phone.
I've been doing it for over 15 years.
I also manage to keep my vehicle on the road with passengers in the front seat and two kids in the back. It can be done, regardless of what some people try to claim.![]()
so happy for you
And my Dad is a retired OTR truck driver who was "talking" on a CB since before I was a born.
I see no difference.
I just did some research and i have found an amazing statistic.
Distracted Driver Accidents actually happened BEFORE cell phones existed.
They happened before cars existed.
to be honest, they probably happened before the wheel was invented (distracted caveman falls off of cliff).
If you are distracted, you are at risk, you also have to accept that in life, there will be distractions.

I think people who text/talk/email while driving are scum. They're knowingly endangering so many lives it's disgusting. If it was up to me, people who do this would be thrown in jail for attempt manslaughter because that's what they're doing. And it's not involuntary.
Maybe that seems harsh to some but thinking your phone call... or even you job (if it relies on you using the phone so much) is NEVER important than anyone's life and people who think it is... sucks.
I totally agree about the texting and driving issue. We had two car accidents last week in our county that were caused by texting, both caused deaths. It is horrible...
However, I do not understand the backlash about cell phones in general outside of driving. I walk around my neighborhood and if I am able to spend some time chatting with a friend while I do it, whether it's on a cell phone or they come along with me physically, I do not see the difference. Same thing goes for shopping. Why does it bother people if I am on the cell phone when I am alone?
