Hello, I am interested in the talking Mickey that I had heard about, is it worth the $50 + or not for a five year old, and can I get one before we go to the park for her birthday? If so anyone know where? Also is it a battery eater? Thanks! :

bump - good question

what kind of batteries does it take? will i need a spare set?

Here's the "official" info on Pal Mickey:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/specialindex?id=PalMickeyPage&bhcp=1

Now, I've never been to WDW so take this for what it's worth...I've heard you used to be able to rent Pal Mickey but that now he's only available for purchase at around $60. I'm not sure about batteries. He will continue to work (with jokes/games) back at home, but, of course, he won't talk about the parks anymore.

I've heard some people say he's too much to carry around the park so that might be something to think about. One person I heard about ripped off the arms, legs, and head to make it easier to carry around! :earseek:

Like I said, I don't have first-hand experience but this is what I've heard from others.

We own a Pal Mickey. I bought him last August for my DD7 (at the time). She loved him and attached him to her fanny pack the entire time we were there. We got lots of laughs over his corny jokes and he was very informative when we were in the parks. He was really chatty at AK and knew lots of neat stuff about the animals. My daughter still talks about when Mickey told her he was scared in the Haunted Mansion, it made her feel better because she didn't like the ghosts.
IMHO I felt he was worth the $60. He went back to WDW in the fall with friends of ours and he still tells his corny jokes and you can play games with him even out of the parks. We get him out when we need a Disney fix. Best of all he's going back again this summer with us. As for batteries he has never needed any! I think he just takes regular AAs.
I am sure your daughter will love him.

I totally told myself- "I will not buy a $60 stuffed animal!" and now you guys are making me want one! :earboy2:

We kept saying we were going to indulge, but never purchased one. This year, we intend to purchase one for the anniversary. He just looks so much better in a tux!! Cant wait!

I heard the new one was even better a little louder speakers dd 7 adores hers we also have never had to get it new batteries but changed them for up coming trip any way. I was told when we bought him to bring him back and have him redown loaded with any new information that may be available during your next trip. Anyone else here the same.

We have a Pal Mickey. Our daughter LOVED having it and we brought it to all the parks. He does tell you a trivia in the parks, and we even found out about a secret passageway we wouldn't have found on Tom Sawyer's Island. Battery's lasted throughout the whole trip - he takes 3 AA batteries. We just changed them the other day, because our talk of a trip next spring caused her to get him out of hiding.

Worth the $$ IMO - it's part of the Disney magic.

Now here is a negative review, my dkids enjoyed it for about half a day and then didn't want to bother with it. It was more trouble than it was worth for them. For the first hour they fought who 'got' to wear him, it wasn't too long before I had to wear it. They got tired of the jokes. I mentioned this on another thread after we arrived home and mentioned I would probably sell it, of course they wont let me  I can't win. :confused3 Now the $60 Mickey sits on the fireplace mantle

Does anyone have a picture?

Here's the pic from the link previously posted above (keep in mind the 50th anniversary Pal Mickey's are wearing a tux):

I have a few questions...If you rent it for a day and then decide to buy it, does the price of the rental get deducted from the $60 price tag? Also, does the one you rent come right out of the box new, or do they give you one that's been rented before? Or if you rent and decide to buy, do you turn in the rental to be rented by someone else, and they give you a new one?

Who won't let you? Why can't you sell it?

:dancer: :cheer2: princess:  We are going to Disney for two weeks this July. We can't wait to get our Pal Mickey. We were going to buy one on ebay so we could have it before we go but then we were told that a new version was coming out in May, so we will hold off until we get there after all. We are hoping the new 2.0 version will have even more updated information and jokes.

Isnt the New version out now?? I emailed disney and they told me i could order the 50th Ann. Version for 65.00 + shipping. Isnt that the one that was suppose to come out in May, or, are they selling another different new Mickey? Im confused now......

I'm not sure. We were only told that the "new" version would be out in May. From what Disney told me it's the 2.0 version. I guess you could ask when purchasing to make sure. I was just glad we didn't get stuck with the older original version, although it's Mickey how bad could it be! Good Luck and Have a great trip! :cheer2:

It think they are only up to 3 versions now. The 1.0 Had the white box inside, the 1.1 had the Black box inside, and the 50th Tux Version is the 2.0. If im wrong please let me know! I currently purchased the 1.1 version on ebay new for my 3 year old, but, im also ordering the Tux Version from Disney Merchandising for Me and my 2 boys!

Does anyone know if you can get the new version w/o Mickey in a tux? My dd would love this for our trip, but being 2, she really distinguishes Mickey in his usual "attire." PS - You can also get this at the Disney store before your trip, correct? Is it any cheaper than getting it when you get to the parks? I'm sure we'll want to buy it instead of rent...I don't see the dd wanting to give it up at the end of the trip after a week of having her friend help her through the parks!

The tux comes off--and then he'll be in his original attire. You can see a picture of him on www.intercot.com. He is on the home page if you scroll down. Hope this helps
